Paid in Dollars

Hi,
I've just started a new job, my basic is paid in Sterling into my bank account but my comission/bonuses are paid in dollars throughout the month pretty much cash in hand (it's ust the way the company is run!) BUT what is the best way to exchange the dollars to use in the UK.
I'm doing my best to get my debt down so every little penny counts, especially with such a weak dollar at the moment! I've already decided that I will buy all my toiletries, make-up etc while in the US as it's just cheaper there anyway so it's a way of using the dollars and saving money.

I assume PAYE is withheld. You would be liable to UK Customs Duty & VAT on importing those purchases...0

A few toiletries and make-up come well within the allowance for customs duty.0
