Cutting back reduces packaging?

Wasnt sure which forum to post this. We have recently started using the tips on this board for cutting back financially. This has resulted in me cooking more meals from scratch rather than using prepacked food, jars of sauces etc.
The dustbin men came today and I was amazed because our black wheelie bin which is usually overflowing was only a half full. So is it just me or is it that cutting back means we are being more environmentally friendly too? Anyone else noticed this?

there is me and three kids, i rarely fill more than 1 bin bag a week, with recyling and home cooking. so its not just you0
-
yes .We usually put our bin out every other week .Composting reduces it even further and it goes out about every third week but we find it easier to compost in the good weather as it breaks down more quickly so more room in the compost bins.0

I've started to use junk mail letters and envelopes to write my many lists on to save buying jotter pads. Also open up cerial boxes etc for the kidz to draw on instead of buying drawing paper.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

I must admit we havent been too good at recycling until my 7 year old did something about it at school, now EVERYTHING needs to be recycled lol.
I also do mystery shopping and need to print assignments that can be 7 or 8 pages long, so every single piece of A4 paper that comes through the door that isnt printed on the back goes into the box to be reused. My husband also now gets paper from work that would have otherwise been ditched.
Is there are thread on here about recycling because I could do with some more ideas. Why is it I always seem to go off topic on these boards? lol“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
not seen one, but we should start one.0

I started making a concerted effort to recycle, because I have depression and it made me feel a little bit better.0 -
