Hi ISOM
'Tis okay - I havent run off into the wild blue yonder (I wish!) - but still got this job uncertainty thing going on on the one hand and "getting my life together" because I'll be retired anyways at some point on t'one hand and want to be able to dive straight into "life proper - full on version" like next week literally if my job DOES go down the swanee fairly soon (as I suspect it will). Who knows? time will tell.
As I said on my "simplifying life" thread - I feel a bit like I'm trying to lead two lives at present - getting on with the one I have at present and moving in the direction of the one I might have soon:cool: Still lurking aways on this thread:D Hope you're feeling well again now after The Operation...0 -
Hi there everyone, first off I have a confession to make I am I beleive what you guys call a lurker! I have been off work for the last 2 weeks with a prolapsed disk, and its looks like a long haul to recovery as I don't get sick pay money is going to be tight, i searched on google and it found you for me. I have spent the last 4 days solid reading the forums on this site - saving money old style and in particular this is my fave, you guys are great so supportive of each other and have the most amazing ideas most of which I intend to try - so there my confession and as I have got so much pleasure from peeking into your world I thought it only right I raised my head and said hi and thank you. This is the first time I have ever posted on a forum (my excuse for the bad spelling my fingers are shaking) I am quite nervous. Well I have done it now all I need to do is press the button .....here goes
:T

Evening all
Woohoo In search of me -here I am
Have tidied up the garden today -roping hubby in of course-that will teach him to escape from work early :rotfl: I got the lawn mowed and loads of tubs emptied -Filled the Bio bin to "overflow" level and still have more to go in-think I may have to ask to use next doors again
Im still trying to finalise what Im planting where next season-need to get it sorted as the broad beans and some peas need setting this month ! plus I need to get hubby building the other 8 arches :rotfl:
The chicken n leek cobbler was stunning ast night -and there is half in the fridge to zap for lunch tomorrow :j -I have just made some tortillas for dinner -so im stuffy puddled
Im going to sit tonight and get some more of my blanky crochetted -I now sit with my free head torch on instead of a lamp :rotfl: well not only does it save electricity but its actually more relaxing than a lamp too :T
I have still only spent €9.84 this month and we are half way through..I have become seriously "super frugal" hubby sits laughing -we have loads of food in but im just being more creative with my "concocting" -partly to use what we have, but also to try and make as much as possible in the remoska to save energy
-so far the concoctions have been lovely
Hope everyone is welloff to get on with blanky now

When my place announced redundancies back in May I knew it was 99.9999% certain I'd be one of those to go -- but had the uncertainty of 'when' hanging over me (as I didn't apply for VST I knew it would be August at the earliest before I was given my notice, which did give me a bit of a breathing space. I now 48 days left as an 'employee' !!!
But this thread, the 'live on £4k/year' and the grocery challenge have really helped me to reign in the spending since early June -- and I can't believe how much my outgoings have gone down in that time, even though I thought I'd cut back pretty much as far as I could in the previous 12 months while I was off sick !!!Cheryl0 -

Hi MrsM. Did you ever try the recipe for dumplings using oil instead of suet? I just wondered how they came out for you if you had done, and how they compared to your normal ones.0 -

Thats a good excuse for more dumplings next week:rotfl: .. I just wanted to finish the box of suet off I had opened..now I can try the oil version before I open my other box of suet
Im keeping my pinkies crossed that they are good as it will be much cheaper -not to mention healthier than suet (even though we have the veg one)...
I did the cobbler yesterday and the scone topping was lovely n light -quite like dumplings as the bottoms were soggy from soaking up the sauce and only 40g of fat to make 8 x 50g scones :T
I will report back as soon as I try the dumplings-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Good to see that people are ok...am ok after the op (sounds like I've had bits chopped off but guess I did!!) ...there is still a lump and a huge scar that is so big its actually impressive and thankfully no pain...not being very vigilant about the bio oil but must...
re the carrot chutney I have eft it overnigt to infuse before I bottle it and simmer more but am worried that its not very chutney like...should I add more sugar perhaps? Just looks like stringy carrots at present and being honest not that appealing!! Any ideas?
Messge from weezl is that she is ok but her internet is down again...says hello to "the girls" as I call you all! Have been cutting out more patchwork pieces and will post when I've finished the first front. Hope to get more done over the w/e...
Hello jaynnie...oo your first post on this thread - very special and I hope the first of many...this is a lovely supportive place to pop in...
Hows the blankie coming on mrs m? Hello c!!:wave:Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi everybody! and a big welcome to Jaynnie too.
very proud of my frugal dinner tonight - lambs liver with onions and a little bit of lidl bacon/chorizo. fancied making something for pudding, and remembered the peaches and pears that were lurking in the fridge (they hadn't got eaten because they were tasteless and horrible).
so I googled a recipe for peach cobbler - although it ended up a peach/pear/apple/frozen raspberry/blackberry jam cobbler (I called it jumbleberry!) and it was delicious- wish I'd made more!
Mrs M I couldnt see a recipe for chicken and leek cobbler in the recipes thread - is it like a pie but with savoury scones on top? sounds yum, and leeks are just about the only thing we've still got growing! In fact I'm going to go over to the Green Fingered Board now to see what I should be doing in the much neglected veg patchweaving through the chaos...0 -
Morning all
Phizzimum... there wasn't a recipe -i was "concocting again" :rotfl: but I made a rough mental note of what went in so:-- drop of oil and dot of butter
- 1 large leek -sliced (200g)
- 100g broad beans (i placed mine in a bowl and covered with boiling water and a lid to start them cooking)
- 200g leftover roast chicken -cut into chunks
- 1/2 tin sweetcorn
- approx 1pt thick cheese sauce -with plenty of english mustard powder in-It needs to be made thick so if the corn etc lets out liquid it won't go thin n runny
- seasoning
- 225g SR flour
- 1tsp salt
- 40g butter/marge
- 30g fresh parmesan -grated
- 1tsp mustard powder
- seasoning
- approx 140ml milk
- heat up the oil and butter
- add the leeks and cook until soft
- throw in the broad beans, chicken, corn and cheeses sauce and mix well -(if doing in oven place in a dish and place in oven to cook and thicken for a few minutes
- make up the scones -I broke the mix into 8x50g balls and flattened slightly (to save rolling out, mess and extra washing
)
- place on chicken mix, sprinkle with a little grated cheese and bake until scones are golden
I think it would be nice to do the sauce with cauli, broccoli steamed carrots n leeks (but no chicken)with the cobbler on top too -that will probably be my next concoction :rotfl:
Im going to sit this morning and finally get to grips with making a plan of where im going to put all my veggie tubs next season, then its on to crochet blanky -here he is so far In search of me-Its not perfect -but not bad for a first attempt
-just waiting for my other wool to arrive -but i won't let myself start on it until blanky is finished :A :rotfl:
right I had better get off to plan that garden  ..I have sooo many things I want to grow next season....
hope everyone has a great day-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50
