Pretty much all of it, as the cleaning cupboard is both full and rarely used! Son has school dinners which at £8 per week is going to have to be seperate I take a lunch to work with me but it's negligable (seriously, wasn't joking about tummy size, have had surgery recently). Hubby buys his own lunches and uses his own money for that.
Cupboards include -

Lots of bread making ingredients (plenty for the month)

Lots of stock concentrates
Lots of curry sauces

Thats off the top of my head, may be other stuff. Going to inventory the freezer after strictly.
Oh and we don't have puddings. ever.
Most nights I just cook for the boys and do myself a 1 egg ommlette as my food has to be very low fat/sugar.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
Oh and we don't have puddings. ever.
Seriously, neither do we. Hubby doesn't have a sweet tooth, and DS doesn't like many other than HM rice pudding (only made when I get Whoopsie! milk) or apple crumble with cream (again, only when I have fregan stewed apples and find Whoopsie! cream)
Will have a trawl through what I've made over the last few months and see if anything 'fits'. Is your family happy with the value/smartprice mince and sausages?Cheryl0 -
Shelbell have you looked on feed a family of 4 thread for £20, that also has some good recipes, not that many can beat weezl, just adding to the pot as it were.
Corned beef can be used for sandwhiches, or put in a pan , for corned beef hash with potatoes, onion and water..boil up and put in at last minute...truely scrumptious.. you can add carrots to it and peas and put it in a pie, as well.
lots of veggie dishes with rice can also be made..see what else you have in freezer.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Evening all
Shelbell... i posted a recipe for savoury meat roll on this thread (i think)... It has very little meat -but it doesn't taste like it . I made 1 today and still have half left for tomorrow -as with most things it tastes better when it has stood .
Will hubby eat corned beef? Only corned beef hash is another good one-especially as the weather is quite nippy... I made a pan of that the other day with dumplings nomnomnom and there was enough left to put it in a big dish and stick a crust on it -enough for 4 too :T
Im lucky -hubby eats what is put in front of him.. he doesn't "do" vegetarian -but will happily eat meat free meals -as long as I don't lable them as veggie :rotfl:
If hubby "must" have meat.. I would go for stewing/shin beef for casseroles -as long as you cook it long and slow its scrummy -most of your cheap cuts are much more flavoursome -you just need to cook them right...
Oooh and the good old chicken can be stretched to within an inch of its life..
Im sure you will get loads of help on here ...

our corned beef hash is just dry-fried corned beef whipped into made-up instant potato.
really quick to make when we're short on time, but I have been having problems finding cheap corned beef £1.16/tin (Mr A Smartprice) just doesn't fit into our budget as only hubby and I eat it -- and a smaller tin doesn't make enough, so we both end up picking on other things later!!!Cheryl0 -
Ahhh
I make cornedbeef hash by :-
chopping up peeled potatoes, chunks of carrot, swede, parsnips and onions -throw them in a huge pan and add water -put the lid on and cook until everything is tender -then bail out some of the liquid if there is too much don't want it to sloppy (keep it in a jug though in case you want to add more later )... add a tin of corned beef (cut into chunks)and a tin of marrowfats and leave to carry on cooking with the lid part off so the liquid reduces down.. plenty of seasoning and then I add dumplings...
200g SR flour
1tsp salt
100g veg suet
and enough cold water to make a dough
break into 4 and shape briefly -try not to handle too much so they stay light
Drop the dumplings in and put the lid on for about 10 mins then roll them over and put the lid back on for 10-15 mins -if you get 2 forks and pull one apart gently it should be fluffy inside
there should be loads left and it will thicken as it cools... the following day either re-heat or i remove all the solids into a pie dish and top with a crust -any left in the pan gets the stock added back to it and blitzed and you have a thick tasty soup too ..its a meal i had on a regular basis as a kid and still a fave :T-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
 I couldn't eat your version MrsM
I detest swede and parsnip, and have to hold my nose if faced with marrowfats !! had a version something like that put in front of me on a guide camp -- and went to bed very hungryCheryl0 -

oo i have done that as well and put a crust on:o I love marrowfat peas but am the only one in this house..gawd my mouth is drooling at the thought of it now..it was also a staple in my house. The children also like it in a chilli con carne..they emphasise the CON bit as it is the only bit of meat in it..:rotfl:
I agree Shaz ASDA have put it up..how dare they, luckily i have tins stashed at the back of the cupboard..guess what i am having tomorrow:j With dumplings..goes waddling off to think about it..sluuuurpppp:rotfl:Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

hugs for you shelbel...sure the ole weezilties will help you through it..I'm going to try and cut down this month and sandwiches are made for tomorrow...still working my way through the freezer and will try and keep it low. Wish I wasnt a pudding person but I do have a sweet tooth (& fillings to proove it). Re the slow cooker I saw one at the car boot yesterday and almost got it thinking I could flog it but wasnt sure...am happy to have a look if anyone wants one as long as they'll pay postage although theyre quite heavy and cookworks do a cheapy one I think from argos (using quidco of course!!)...
corned beef hash...umm we used to have it when I was at boarding school and the only way it was pallatable was to add jam to it!! also the same with bacon - add marmalade and my fave sandwiches are bacon and marmalade sandwiches on white bread with butter - butter and marmalade minge and yummy BUT - cant even stand the smell of corned beef...makes me feel queasy to think of it!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! HI Seakay
My water bath is like a huge pot, have seen them also used as a tea urn. Has a thermostat on the front and a tap to get rid of the water. Will hold 7 preserving jars at a time.
Hope this helps
Cheers
