Gosh i havent been on here for months

Not sure if anyone of you will remember but I got nailed my debts down to a couple of grand instead of the 15 grand i started with :o

Well my debt has risen now to eight grand due a car purchase :o

BUT this had taken some long diliberation and thought before i bought the car as it will be saving me £60 a month on fuel and its almost a new car so no MOT and all parts are covered by warrenty and my old car was knocking on 10 years and was starting to cost me so i thought it was the best way out.

Just really hate having this extra debt when I was almost debt free. :(

Anyway just to let you know I should be on here for a while now due to work being less hetic and i should have a but more "playtime"

    thanks sarah

We bought a house almost a year ago. My OH has bought a new car two years ago and it was the best thing he did. With the fuel savings the was kinda "free"

I bought my car two months ago and I dont regret buying it as its a practical car and is saving me money on fuel, tax etc but i would have ideally liked to have paid off that last two grand but a couple of years ago i wouldnt have even thought about the debt it wouldnt have bothered me. Having the debt does bother me but i dont feel its "bad debt" but still annoying :o

snap! are you me? I was in the same position a couple of months ago and did the same thing. not regretting it though as I can get about without worrying and this time next year it'll be completely paid for whereas before I would have bought it over 3 or 5 years.

glad i am not the only one.

I was really proud of the way i have nailed my debt right down and it just seemed a shame to bring it up a bit more but I think it was for the best and a grande punto isnt exactly a flashy car and is diesel :p

  • Practical reasons for me too.... my car is old, tax is high, can't fit four + luggage for family holiday when OH's DS1 comes with us..... BUT desperate want a deposit for when the housing market settles, and I don't drive to work every day, so in a way it seems like a waste of money....

Sarah - could you not look at hiring one just for the holiday? that way you get a good, reliable one for the week/fortnight and still have the deposit. I drive about 300/400 miles a week but if you don't need to drive every day maybe it's an option...

  • Once I'm debt-free I'll be going straight back into debt with a new car! I have an 8 year old 2.3 litre gas guzzler at the moment, and the next thing I get will be a small 1.4 or thereabouts of a few years old.

I've learnt that having a nice car is not worth the constant stressing over repaying an extortionate car loan for, so cheap as chips for the next one!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

We did for our last holiday - thats what made me start to think it would be nice to have a new car! I do think hiring one every year will be a lot cheaper than buying a new one...... I think its definately a 'want' rather than a 'need'

I went from a 260BHP to a 106nhp now a 90bhp :o My 1.3 multijet diesel gives me 63mpg compared to my 1.6 that gave me 32mpg so i am saving quite a bit on fuel. I was going to wait until next year to get a new car when i had payed my debt off but it was false economy if i was paying loads on fuel and on repairs.

I was going to buy a BMW to celebrate my debt freeness. Well that went out the window as soon as the fuel prices shot up :o
