On the topic of freezers - anyone know why I get

loads and loads of white ice on all my food. It's worst ie most annoying, on home made snacks or home chopped veggies that get completely caked in it. It spoils some of the food and makes the veggies a pain to cook.
Freezer is about 3/4 full - I wonder if freezer door isn't closing properly? Or are they just too old for it now (one is about 12 yrs old and the other about 8 yrs) - neither is frost free but really, to stop a glacier forming in there I should defrost them about once a month (and there's no WAY I'm going to be doing that!!!)

Prehaps it isn't working properly :-/....or the other reason is the door is opened too often/long....have you checked the seals for splits ???
The other thing to try is if it's only 3/4 full fill the space your not using with newspaper, that way when you open the door there won't be loads of space for warm air to rush in and settletherefore your freezer won't have to overwork itself to compensate for the temp rise

I had the same prob with my 25 yr old. not very close fitting door, chest freezer. No probs now I have a new one. Another cause could be too much moisture in the freezer by putting in warm food. If you don't freeze warm food or leave open for a long time it could be that it is clapped out (tech term)Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Sounds like you need a new one :-/
If you are claiming any benefits (including family tax credits) you can get a new fridge or fridge freezer for £50 and £75 respectivley. Not sure if they do just freezers - might be worth ringing them to ask.

If you don't have any luck with them try your local council. Some are doing a similar independent schemeWhen life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
sounds like the seal, i had mine replaced, cost me £24, but cheaper than a new freezer.0

it's usually because food is too warm or moist when put in freezer and the condendsation formed in the bag from the warm food cooling then turns to frost on the foodNamed after my cat, picture coming shortly0

chloe, is it inside the packages or on the outside?0
-
thank you all - if the bags are presealed then it's on the outside - if it's things I've put in in bags (I don't tie them well as I can't stand freezing my fingers off to open them) then the ice (almost like frozen snow on the food) is everywhere, inside and outside. Big chunk of hard ice also forms very quickly in the top of the freezer0

sounds like its the seal then. with the stuff you freeze yourself, chilling in the fridge for an hour helps stop the ice inside the bags.
