Oh my God don't get me started on this...actually do.
Without meaning to sound on my high horse, we don't get that much time off, just as we don't only work 7 hours a day.
The average teacher will get to school at 7.30/8, teach, have naff all lunch hour, do after school stuff, (i.e. sport, drama etc), then have meetings, then get home at 7 and still have to plan and mark.
In terms of hols, the 6 weeks in the summer the first and last week at least are spent marking/planning/sorting classroom out. Easter is usually spent writing revision packs/mock papers (depending on year group/subject), catching up on paperwork, writing reports.
I'm not trying to have a go, as I'm also sure there are some teachers that do !!!!!! all. However the ones I've worked with put a lot of work in, for not a lot of thanks, and get, after all the extra work they do, about the same hols, or even less than everyone else!
