How about adding New Year's Eve and NY Day to the list - OK, we all know when they are, but there are some nice traditions (OS party tips, anyone?)
Eastern Orthodox (e.g. Russian) Christmas Eve - 6th Jan, Christmas Day 7th Jan 2007 [this belongs to 2006 festivities, due to the Julian/Gregorian calendar difference]Cogito, ergo sum.0 -
Some (H.P. Love)crafty folks have come up with a new winter celebration for those who don't fall into any of the major religious groups but aren't comfortable with the consumer frenzy of the secular version of Christmas (Ideal for Moneysavers!). It's called Cephalopodmas, and falls on 22nd December. More details at the following hilarious website: http://www.cephalopodmas.org
Edit: Just incase anyone misses the link from the Cephalopodmas website, there's an even funnier festive H.P. Lovecraft themed site here, with carols you can listen to: http://www.cthulhulives.org/Solstice/0 -

Hi all,
in germany we celebrate on the 24th of december ( Heilig Abend/holy Night)
And then we have the 1st and 2nd Christmasday(erster and zweiter weinachtstag/christmas day+Boxing day). Our Santa is called the Weinachtsman.
As we live in england and hubby is scottish our kids celebrate both days lol, presents under the tree after dinner on the 24th usually from granni and auntys, and on the 25 in the morning they get hubbys and my pressys lol, so they really get the whole exitment twice over, mind you Emma is 9 now and like a stroppy teenager so prob wont have the weinachtsmann for her next year only pressis from mum and dad !0 -

how about some heathen dates? General information on the Anglo-Saxon Calendar
Winternights - festival around the same time as halloween/allsaints/Samhain
Jul/Yule or Mother Night - is our family festival.
I guess the problem with the heathen dates is they have a tendancy to move, being that the solstice isn't always on the same date and Winternights is generally celebrated after the first frost!
