Samsung ML1610 £50 in PC World

Just picked up one of these at the local PC World, £80 in store but £50 online. Order it online and slect collect in store at the lower price.

I had a 1510 before but it died after a lot of use (and numerous refills). Excellent printers all round.

Cheers

Jeff

I have the 1210 and if you use a pair of pliars, you can pull off the plug and refill with toner bought off ebay. Some ebay toner sellers will include a diagram of the certridge and where the plug is, and also a funnel.

The 1510 Toner cartridge has a rubber bung that you can pull out (when empty of course) and refill with a bottle of toner from the likes of consumable cafe (http://www.ricardo.users29.donhost.co.uk/acatalog/SAMSUNG_BOTTLED_TONER.html) for around £8 per go, does around 2000 pages.

That website also has instructions on how to refill most toners.

    Hope that helps

ebuyer delivery can be a bit pants though. (unless they've sorted it out) and they are nearly impossible to contact.

I agree there are people who have had delivery problems, I have bought lots of things and never had a problem with faulty items or late deliveries. Any online retailer is harder to contact than just walking into a shop that's why they are cheaper because they don't have staff to pay, ship direct from a distributor etc.

If you need a cable to connect the printer to the computer you pay less than £2 at ebuyer I would think that is a lot cheaper than PCW too?

Bought one of these from ebuyer several months ago, had no problems with delivery and am very happy with it
  • Polly, I've been looking at this printer, and there does seem to be some reports that the cartridges are sealed (IE no bung) and possibly chipped (IE they 'know' when they're empty and won't work even if you find a way to refill them.

Any chance you could confirm \ deny this rumour (found on one of the reviews at ebuyer). Looking around, none of the refill sites claim to be able to work with the 1610, which would put a dent in the total cost of ownership for it!

I've read on the consumable cafe website that the cartridges are sealed but they seem to have a procedure to either melt a hole or use an apple corer to make a hole then sticky tape over it to seal it. I haven't heard anything about them being chipped though.

    Cheers
