White T shirts have gone yellow

This happens every year - I buy a couple of new cheapish white T shirts and before the end of the summer they have gone yellow.
What causes it and how can I prevent this happening?

Is it yellow all over or just in areas which are in contact with sweat (like underarms, back of neck)?
If it's sweat, you can use regular washing up liquid as a pre treatment. If it's all over - I'm not sure. Is it discolouration due to the sun, or are you washing your whites with cream/pastel colours maybe? You could try soaking the whites in hot water & washing powder, I'm not too sure about prevention though - I use a UV type protectant in white washes - think it's called Crystal White, anyway it's around 80p for 4 sachets in Wilko's, which lasts me a month (1 big white wash a week!)0 -
I would peg them out on the line for a few days when (big if) we have some sun.The sun can help to bleach them back white. If this fails i'm not sure what to suggest.

Thanks for your reply! It seems to be a general yellowing all over but more in the neck and arm areas, I'm wondering if it's to do with creams such as moisturiser and sun cream. I will look out for the Crystal White and also give your other suggestion a try.
