Heading towards 'back to school' time, and i've found this lurking under small business on Dells site. Apologies in advance if its been posted before....
Dell Vostro 200
160GB HDD
512Mb RAM
19 inch TFT
CD/DVD Combo Drive
Intel Celeron 420 1.6GHz
1 Years warranty.
for £235.07 delivered.
Evalue code 305-D08V01a
Very entry level processor and RAM, but very usable for surfing, wordprocessing etc, and better than buying a used PC for someone on a very tight budget. Double the RAM to 1Gb for £17, upgrade to a Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140 1.6GHz for an extra £23.50
Don't forget Quidco for cashback.
Looks cheap to me?
Hope this helps someone

It makes me laugh when someone posts an offer to a 'low spec' pc and go on to say that its ok for 'surfing and wordprocessing'
I remember surfing and wordprocessing on a IBM 286 with 16mb ram and windows 3.1
How much of your pc's capabilities do you guys actually use?
20-30% ?
:rotfl:£2 savers club = £83.500 -
all its got0

Yes, but the hardware requirements to run the current software to do those tasks has increased dramatically. So there's no comparison.
Although I understand the point you're trying to make. :beer:0 -
If you can stretch to £35 more, I reckon the 305-D08V02 would be a far better machine (with thanks to MikeT at HUKD)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140 Processor (1.6GHz,800MHz,1MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista Business (OR XP Professional)
Dell™ 19" Value Flat Panel (E198FP)
1024MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x512]
250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst cache
Integrated Intel Graphic Media Accelerator XP)
Dell Entry Quietkey USB Keyboard - UK/Irish (QWERTY)
Dell 2 Button USB Scroll Optical Mouse - Black
Integrated 7.1 Channel High Definition Audio
Microsoft Works 8.0 - English
16x DVD +/- RW Drive
1 Years Warranty
Don't forget Quidco.
Edit: Upgrading to the lovely 22" widescreen monitor increases the price to just £340 delivered. To buy the monitor on its own would cost you £293! Though that would be including a 3 year warranty.0 -
All fair comments guys, merely thinking of ppl on a budget - lets be honest, so many people get roped into paying maybe four times that in PC world for a machine whose capabilities they will only use 20% of.
Cheapest new PC with a 19 inch screen that i've seen! :money:0 -
no matter how you do
for adding a wee bit more you will always increase the spec of a PC
but 235£ for a new computer is fantastic!0 -

I couldn't agree more, and I wasn't trying to deride the OP's bargain because it IS a bargain. I was merely pointing out that £35 buys you a whole lot more PC, dual core processor, larger hard drive, twice as much RAM, Vista Business etc.. Fine if you are OK to stretch to another £35, if not the OP's PC would be fine.0 -

Yes, i agree totally.
It stuns me how cheap these things have got, even take the screen as being worth £120, you've a brand new base, keyboard and mouse for £115.0 -
I've just upgraded the OP's machine to the same spec as the one I highlighted and it comes out at £440 delivered. Whatever you do, people, be very careful upping the specs on the budget Dell machines, there is usually a custom built one with the spec you want that will be way cheaper.0
