White Towels?
Curv
I'm thinking of buying new towels... at the moment we have navy blue towels and green towels that are just starting to look a bit tatty.
I like the idea of getting a load of new, matching ones, possibly white.
Will I regret this? Do they look filthy the moment they've been used? What's the best colour towels for not looking grubby?

Hotels always have white towels because they can be bleached, boiled etc and always look smart.0

I have alot of white items not just towels e.g. baby vests, sleepsuits, ds1 t-shirts etc and they are always so fabulously white (if i do say so myself
) my friends wonder at how i keep my whites so white.....its probably due to the fact that I use a good quality washing powder (bold 2-in-1), I wash whites on a regular basis and I always ALWAYS use a 90 degree wash..,..and it actually doesn't shrink the clothes or washing at all....this works particularly well on my towels as well :j 0 -
Do you have children, they will get really grubby quickly if so.
The only good thing about white towels is when they start to look tatty you can dye them and they look brand new again."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does, except wrinkles. What is your colour scheme?, I have black hand towels in the downstairs loo, as it is a black and white scheme."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does, except wrinkles. That's one of the reasons I love white towels....I can see that my dd has used it to take her makeup off before I use it after my shower.
I find white towels wash come up really well on a hot wash and if I think the colour is going a bit grey I thow a bit of bleach or napisan in too.

Good point Pink, although I'm really fussy when it comes to towels etc, we each have our own in the bathroom, there is no way I would re-use the towel OH has used, heaven knows where its been:eek:"Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. having two boys who have white polo shirts for school and a OH who has a clean white shirt every day for work and some white towels i wouldn't be without my fairy non-bio and vanish in the bit pink tub and i do most of the washes on a 40c and hubby can come home with makeup, blood, food, beer and gawd nows what else (he's a manager at a big entertainment complex) and they always come out lovely and white :j

I think it's fair to say that unless everyone in the house is meticulous about scrubbing themselves clean, then any residual muck will show on a white towel. I have mostly white towels and if "quickly wash my hands" (!!!!!!-speak for fail to wash them properly) then the towel pays me back

But - they do return to their glory after washing. The secret is don't let them get too grubby, use bio powder and a hot 60° or 90° wash.
Oh - and make sure those in the house scrub their feet. Standing in the shower and letting the soapy water run over them doesn't count - the towels will look like dishcloths after one use

I have lots of white towels, so they always match and can all be washed together.
To put a different spin on everyone's answers... do you think dark towels are cleaner...
...same dirt, you just can't see it
