I think the answer might be 2000.
This link here says "2000 - Me to You 1st generation plush." Also it shows that the bear wasn't yet grey in 1987 & they want the date of the 1st plush grey bear.:j Feb2012: Getting back into comping! :j

I agree with you, the timeline down the right of the comp entry page kinda gives the answer away as it shows the brown bear for the other 2 dates
