Hello all,
I would like to make a chilli tonight but I don't have any red wine in, I think this is a must have ingredient but I just can't stretch to any this week. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what i could use as a substitute.
Thanks in advance

Have you got any white wine or some dry sherry at home? If so, you could use that. I often use white wine in recipes instead of red wine and vice versa. Failing that, just leave it out and add some water or stock if you need more liquid. I personally never add wine to chilli so I am sure you could leave it out.
Enjoy the chilli.

wine in savoury food is one of the only things i cant stand so its certainly not must have for me!!]
either just leave out or a dash of worcester sauce.
the best thing for improving chilli is a square or too of dark chocolate or a spoonful of pure cocoa (honest)- prior planning prevents poor performance!

I never use wine in chilli. Just tomotoes, beans, meat, some veg sometimes like peppers, onions etc & spices, oh and a little sugar to take the twang out of the tomatoes. Cocoa not something I have tried yet but lots recommend it.One day I might be more organised...........

just leave it out, it's not exactly a must have
I use this recipe http://www.tesco.com/recipes/product.aspx?R=582&bci=4294966985%7CHealthy%20Eating
I leave out the drinking chocolate, add a bit of cumin powder and add chilli powder to taste (about 2 tblsps, hubbie likes it spicy) and it's gorgeous
I add a little bit of caster sugar for sweetness to counterbalance the tomatoes (something my mum taught me) and hubbie said it's the best chilli he's ever had- he used to eat tons of the stuff when he was a student so I take this as high praise ;0)0 -
I always use bianco and rosso vermouth in place of white and red wine. The bottle lasts ages once opened, and you don't need as much, therefore you save a fortune.0
