Christmas Parcels....

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but if it's not, I apologise.

While we are all out doing our Christmas preparations and buying gifts and treats, could you please just take time out to think of our many thousands of troops overseas.
We have soldiers sailors and airmen all over the world that will be separated from their loved ones this Christmas.

If you possibly can afford to, It would be fantastic if you could make up a small parcel for them. There is a link at the bottom for "SOS" . This will tell you all about how you can help them this Christmas.

I am from a forces family, and believe me, just the smallest reminder of home is a fantastic boost. No matter what you think of the jobs they are doing, they are not there through choice, they are there as it is their job. They really have no choice.
Please support our soldiers, sailors and airmen this christmas. And wear your poppies with pride this Sunday.

Sorry to go on, thanks for getting this far! :T

  • It's a great idea!

Having looked at the site, the boxes will include "toiletries". I wonder how many MSEers are looking for a good home for their J&J baby stuff, especially the talc!

The site has contact details all over the country for the organisers, who I'm sure would be happy to arrange collection of any worthwhile J&J stashes.

I will still be doing the shoe boxes for children, but this year I think my main effort will go to collecting/packing stuff for the soldiers. We've got to show them that we care ...... after all, the government and the MOD don't seem to!
  • quite right verytrying.

we have finished our children's shoeboxes with school this week and they are all gone now, so the next couple of weeks will be soldiers boxes. don't forget the women too! i usually go into the department stores and get the sample size creams and stuff from the desks. if you tell them what you are doing it for, they are usually more than happy to give you a handful of samples.

it really doesn't have to cost us a fortune, yet it means the world when you're the other side of the world. my kids have drawn some nice pictures too. it's all about making them feel supported and cared about. we can all do that.

  • Glad someone has mentioned this on the board!

Our school has just finished sending the childrens's shoeboxes, it's about time we focus on what is closer to home and support our soldiers!

Having served myself I would say please don't forget the women soldiers!
  • i am trying to remind people about the women soldiers too! according to the site, only 10% of the boxes are made up as women specific.
it's very easy to collect your free samples and stuff and put them all together for the ladies. it's difficult to send much because of the weight limits, so samples and travel size items are best as you can get more variety into the boxes.
please keep this thread bumped so we can get as much support as possible. thanks. x

What a wonderful idea and thank you for posting about this. We all do our childrens boxes for school but I have never heard of this. We will definately be doing a couple - such a worthwhile cause.

Does anyone know if there are restrictions on what you can't send like there are on the childrens boxes - i.e. liquids etc.
  • if you check the website, it tells you what you can't send.
you are not allowed to send alcohol, which is a great pity. tobe honest, when my husband was in the forces on tour, i used to send him minatures disguised as something else! LOL
    it's Christmas after all.

BUT......as these boxes are going through official channels, you have to stick to what is allowed as they turn it away. They encourage you to put your contact details in which I usually do, that way if there is anything the person who recieves your box wants specifically, they can write to you and let you know.

it is a really worthwhile cause.
