screen wash

Any ideas on a cheap screenwash (DIY?)? Or should I just buy concentrated?

  • My OH never uses this as he says it is a complete waste of time and plain old water does the same trick. He's worked on cars since he was 16 and it seems to have done his cars no harm!

The RAC say that vinegar is good for cleaning your wiperblades so you don't get that awful judder - I think I watch too much tv!! :rotfl:

well that's fairly true but you do get a nice gleam - maybe it's my occasional waxing?

Plain old water won't get you very far on a freezing winter's day, you need something like meths in it.

A little squirt of washing up liquid and a drop of vingear in the reservoir in the summer and meths in the winter should do the job.

I've never worked on cars but previosuly when I have just topped up with water I got a horrible stagnant smell wafting through everytime I used my washers! _pale_

I posted this very same question a while ago (probaly six months back or so) and as well as lots of suggestions for places to buy cheaper screenwash someone suggested washing up liquid in the water instead of screenwash.

I have done this ever since with no problems - would recommend it!

Yep, been doing that for 30 years and it's as good as any of the high priced alternatives.

Once summer is out the way, all the petrol stations will have the winter motoring stuff at cheap prices.

There was a thread about this before?

By all means use water or v diluted screenwash in the summer. But you will need stuff that won't freeze up during the winter and will get rid of the road salt easily. I would also be worried about vinegar and washing up liquid dripping onto my paintwork.

hehe my paintwork is already screwed but I take your point. Meths? Sounds even more dangerous! (Yes it'll be far too diluted, but will it strip my paint???!)
