Repairing credit file???

Just saw an advert in a newspaper that was kicking around.
It's from a company who claim that they can repair your credit score, give you a credit card and get you a current account & chequebook with major High Street banks.
I'm certainly not interested in the credit card part - but I'd like to improve my credit score and get an account with HSBC maybe. Has anyone used these people before? How does it work, and what are the pros and cons?

I've always been told that basically theres nothing these people do that you can't do yourself. You just have to keep paying bills on time, and be careful with the amount of credit checks you have run. Try ordering your credit report for yourself and see what's there. Don;t forget to go through pigsback etc! This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

If you visit a site www.floodle.net they do loads of the ebooks you can buy on Ebay, I'm sure I've seen an ebook about repairing credit on there.
Let us know what you find out. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Hi LTD - It IS possible to 'repair' your credit records, but ONLY to a certain degree. If debts have been paid, then you can ask for any reference to that debt to be marked as 'satisfied' for which (if a CCJ was issued) you may need to supply a copy of the 'Certificate of Satisfaction' which you can get at the Court, on payment of a fee (used to be £10, but I think it may have gone up to £15).
You can, also, ask for incorrect information to be removed from your credit file.
Unfortunately, though, whilst records that are marked as 'satisfied' may help a creditor to make up his mind as to whether or not to give you credit, these records will not completely disappear from your credit record for six years.
As you can get hold of your credit file for £2 (even less if you sign up for the 'free' one month trial, via quidco) this is a good place to start.
It is very difficult to see what more a 'credit repair' company can do for you, other than to charge you outrageous fees.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi - remember if it sounds too good to be true... as a few others on here have said, you can do it all yourself for cheaper or free. If you are really curious, it might be 'interesting' to call them, ask them what they would do (don't pay anything!) and then report back here?

Blast, I'd forgotten about this.
Will call them tomorrow and let you guys know what info they give me £2 Coin Savings = £0.230 -
If you have bankruptcy on your file as I do they can't help as they explained to me on the phone.
They claim to have a legal dept which "works with you" to remove CCJs.
Can't comment on this though as I don't have those.
For what it's worth Experian advise against using credit repair companies
Hope this helps

I got a letter from these scammers today wanting me to send them £68.00 to 'repair' my file. They talk about blacklists which there are no such thing. Which made me instantly believe it is simply a con.0
