Whoever said it was the better model was wrong! DSG tend to get 'slightly' different codes on the samsung TVs, Q96 vs Q97 in this case. The reason for this is mostly thought to be due to pricematching, since the model nos are different, one cannot do a pricematch. However, do not believe that there are performance differences because there are not, they are basically the same TV with different model numbers.

Do a google search for it, it is a well known practice.

In answer to the post.... I went through the same trouble. DSG are a good way to go. They may be shockingly lacking in their tech knowledge, but they do more than reasonable prices, especially when delivery is factored in. However, since they are effectively one 'group', it would be unreasonable to expect them to be the very best price on every TV. So since we are from an awkward part of the land, we are forced to accept either getting the TV we want (perhaps not at the price we want) else being less picky and paying the price we want (though not necessarily the exact TV we want). I honesty, most people are not going to have the slightest idea whether one 'good' TV is better than another from another brand, so dont worry about it. As noted, Dixons are often cheaper (though not always, my samsung came from Currys) and they certainly used to do a price promise (which is why they tend to have lower prices, otherwise they would forever have staff doing price promise work!).

Sorry. I thought the Q96 didn't have built-in Freeview, but the Q97 did.

Today I've been looking at the Sony KDL40V3000U with prices in England for as low as £617, cant get anyone over here any where near that price but have sent an email off to AJelectronics who stock it at £692 but may deliver over here at a price.

Think if I could get it for £750 I would be happy :)

Nope, I have the Q96 and it have freeview.

There are model designations C96/97, these are a less expensive version of the Q96/97.

Q96 is an old model & the Q97 replaced it ... believe me, I've sold buckets of them (iirc the 96 was in Matt Black where as the 97 is Piano black). Also watch out for european v's UK models (these often change codes as can been seen on the Samsung website)

In response to OP, why not organise your own courier, generally around £40 for an insured big screen delivery.

I am afraid you are mistaken. This topic has been done to death on specialist web sites, check the likes of:

They are basically the same TV. Your recollection on color is wrong, my Q96 is piano black. The 96 model is sold by DSG, the 97 by everyone else. This practice is well known.

it was the difference between the "C" & "Q" range

but is there not a cosmetic difference in the 96 v 97 ? (speaker trim?)
