Pillow case dresses

DD was a bit short of sundresses for DGD, so I found some old pillow case & made her some dresses.
To make your own, leave the side seams & open edge as they are, slit the top & turn the edge over leaving enough room to thread ribbon or tape through, a bit like making a gym bag. the ribbon them becomes the shoulder straps.
DD is very pleased, DGD is insisting on sleeping in one of the dresses!. I used one of the pillow cases that went with the duvet cover I used to make an apron for the other DD.

Great idea Hester:T I've a book which uses pillow cases to make a skirt for an adult (a slim adult- so not me). It got me thinking about making a summer skirt out of an old patterned duvet cover.

If you go to www.crafsters.org and look at the section for childrens clothing there`s loads of clothes made from pillowcases etc - even on the adult clothing section.

Lat year my DD (then aged 8) made herself a pillowcase dress out of a Cath Kidston roses pillowcase I had won ( I won a whole bed set!)! I was really reluctant to let her have a pillowcase at first but she begged and begged (and cried and stamped  and insisted it HAD to be that material - nothing else !) and once I had listened properly to what she wanted to make I relented!! I only helped out a little bit with the sewing/cutting and I must say it came out really well and she looked lovely. She made a vest -top type of dress using a vest to mark out the shoulders. I was VERY impressed with her ingenuity!! Mind you she's definately got a creative streak - today she was wearing a long cotton skirt of mine as a dress - drawstring waist tied halter style over her neck with one of my belts to cinch it in at the waist!!

Crikey - the thought would never even have crossed my mind - but, on checking out that first link given - the MayaBlog one - they looked cute.

Well - thats certainly one way to "reduce, reuse and recycle" and get a pretty result too - if one has a little girl.

I'm now making her a dress from an old blouse someone gave me, I will definitely take some pics of this one before I hand it over.
