Here are a few cleaning hints for pewter!
1. Rub pewter objects with cabbage leaves to get them clean. The leaves are gentle enough to clean the pewter without scratching it.
2. Never put pewter in a dish washer.
3. As long as the item is not damaged then warm soapy water is the safest way to clean all pewters. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -
Thanks for the tips on cleaning my pewter tankard
I have already tried the cabbage leaves trick (I googled and found that suggestion).
It's never been in the dishwasher - heaven forbid!
And yet it has dark gray spots and blobs that I have failed to remove
Warm soapy water doesn't touch it, nor does any metal polish I've tried.
Any ideas folks...0 -
The cleaning experts on the 'Old Style' board will probably have the answer so I'll move this thread across.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
