new oven or combi microwave?

Options
I've got to the point where I need to replace either my oven or microwave, just not sure which

I use my oven alot, but to be honest its rubbish... it was in my flat when i moved in, its not fan assisted and has just a single (grill) heating element... I'm a bit p'ed off with having to wait half an hour for it to heat up and i long for a nice efficient fan assisted oven but i'm guessing I will need to pay £200+ for a decent one, with fitting on top of that?

Similarly my microwave is cheap and nasty... I only really use it for heating things up, but just 650w and not big enough to fit any decent size dishes or containers in... I've heard good things about the combi-microwaves and i'd be up for spending £150ish on a decent Panasonic one, at least I could take it with me when I leave my flat too... but what is the quality of the food really like compared with an oven?

I'm leaning more towards the microwave for convenience, and the fact that I just cook for myself most days... but I do alot of home cooking so the oven makes more sense there

Any advice / experiences?

Unless I'm doing a roast or something I use the oven only in my Panasonic combi micro/oven all the time. It heats up quicker, it's easy to control and time, cooks more evenly as it rotates etc. The only thing I'm not over enamoured with is the grill - I feel you can't get close enough, but if you are used to a not very good one it depends how much grilling you do! I do very little as I use my George Foreman!
  • I agree with taketwo I use my Panasonic combi/microwave oven all the time, in fact as I live on my own and it is a good size I do not have a conventional oven at all. I would thoroughly recommend it.

My parents still have one that's nearly as old as me - and it's great! Perfect for doing jacket spuds :)

The downside is that there's really only room for one meal at a time, so it's fine for 1 or 2 of you, but you'll never do Christmas Dinner in it.

I assume you've got a separate hob, so you'll still be able to do counter-top cooking..?

    Thanks guys

Thats pretty much the response I was expecting... I have separate hobs, a George Foreman, a toaster and a breadmaker, so I'll pretty much sorted with a decent microwave.

I know Panasonic combi-microwaves are the ones to go for, but are there any particular features I should be looking out for?

I'm thinking this one fits the bill quite nicely: Panasonic NN-A574SB

    Any thoughts?
