Hi guys,
I've done a search but without success and could do with a wee bit of help. About 2 weeks ago I got 2 melons for £2, one was quite ripe, the other like a cannon ball! We ate the ripe one and....you guessed it....put the other at the back of the fridge and forgot about it
It's not gone bad but seems a bit soft to eat, like it would be a bit minging if I served it as a solo dessert like I usually do. I'm just wondering if there was anything else I could do with it? I thought about a smoothie but we're out of yogurt and other fresh fruit (I do a new fruit shop on monday) so I'm totally bamboozled! I also thought of a crumble/pie etc but I've never heard of melon pie
Any ideas gratefully recieved, it seems a shame to throw away something that isn't actually bad.
Cheers medears

Hi Jen,
One of my son's favourites is melon, banana and orange juice all whizzed together with a stick blender. If you don't have bananas do you have any tinned or frozen fruit you could add to it?

Why not make it into a sorbet.......0

Hi pink thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated and it sounds lovely
I have one or two frozen bananas, and one carton of apple juice, unfortunately no orange?
Not being a banana eater, would this work instead?I don't mind not eating it, I'm sure hubbie would wolf it down! If it would work then I'll give it a whirl!
Many thanks,

Why not make it into a sorbet.......
A sorbet sounds v. posh and interesting, I've only ever had one at a posh resturant and it was well nice
is it hard to do?

Hi Jen,
DS thinks the flavours would work (but he is a 14 yr old boy ) . Fozen bananas should work well if you can chop them into chunks before adding to the smoothie.
Personally I think floss' idea is a better one. Sorbet is really easy to make. Have a look here to get an idea: any sorbet recipes?
I'll have a look to see if I can find a melon sorbet recipe and edit it into this post.

I make dd a smoothie every day and she chose yesterday's fruits - gala melon, tinned pineapple and grapefruit.
She loved it!
(but then she would)
Maybe you would like it too?

:T To everyone who has helped me out, thank you so much!:j
I found all of the links very useful, and tomorrow am going to make a sorbet because as fond as I am of smoothies etc I really love a new challenge and sorbet is something that in my 8 years cooking I have never attemptedHowever, the fantastic suggestions from all of you for smoothies and drinks have been duly noted and stored for future use
pink-winged- please thank your DS for his help....I'll let you know if the combo works when I've tried it in the future!
After reading all the sorbet threads and recipies I'll probably do some kind of !!!!!!!ised version that incorporates ginger as well cos both of us dig the whole melon/ginger combo.
I'll probably post my progress tomorrow either here or the flylady thread if I'm too lazy write two posts
Thanks for all your help :T
