Yes deffinately - a min spec of 512 is really needed these days. however the cost of buying and installing another 256 should be around £20-30

Got a linky for these deals ? :)

Laptop looks decent although the screen's a bit small and a memory upgrade needed as suggested. Bit of a stingy hadr drive as well. Decent price though for the spec.

AVG Pro (about the same price as mcafee) gets a similarly good review. If they make a pro version and charge for it, I would imagine the free version had some limitations that would make the fee worth the cost.

Can a free product really compete with a paid for subscription?

I have downloaded a few of these free versions (not AVG) and they just tend to advise you upgrade to sort the problems out – or don't find them at all.

The PC world price does seem good – not half price as no-one sells it for the suggested price anyway. It's a little cheaper though. You do have to pay the £4 delivery charge though, which is a bit of a downer. If we could get free delivery, that would be just the job!

they do loads of them, norton 2004 internet security is only 19.99 ( shipping 3.49)

The mcafee internet security 2005 v7.0 is the same price.
  • Looking at the PC World sale webpage, both:

Fujitsu Siemens Intel Pentium 4 532 Processor 3.06GHz Laptop with HT Technology

    and

Packard Bell Intel Pentium 4 Processor 530 3.00GHz PC & 17" Proview TFT

    are NOT bargins.

Probably going of topic but.....I would strongly recommend AVG from GRISOFT. There is no charge for a licence if you are a private home user only. The limitation is that there IS a licence fee if you want to use it in a commercial environment. IE there commercial arm subsidises their private arm.

I've worked with Sophos. McAfee, Dr. Sols etc and AVG is a good as the rest.

Before you rush off take a look at the Novatech clearance:-

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/clearance/

    Good company especially for components.
  • I've used Grisoft's AVG for some time and it's fantastic virus software, it notifies you if you have downloaded or tried to open a virus infected file and cleans it if possible, if not it put's it in a vault... It still has all the usual features (PC scan, updates, etc...) and there are no limitations (for personal use only and not business use)

It works exactly the same as norton and mcafee but they don't rip you off by making you pay for it...

Direct link to download (free): http://www.download.com/3001-2239_4-10342876.html

    Don't pay get it free...
