2 leather Marcello sofas for £499. Any good?

Options
2 leather sofa (part leather anyway) for £499 seems too good to be true. I've found looking around that cheaper sofas come with cushions as part of the main sofa ie not detachable. I'd like the sofas to have seat cushions that could be moved, I'd also like a higher seat level than seems normal due to my arthritic knees.
Don't know if my attempt to quote the web page will work.

My other reason for hesitating is that I bought a bathroom vanity unit from Argos and it was delivered faulty 3 times and although installed is totally c**p. I swore never to buyanything there again and reason tells me these sofas are too good to be true.

Has anyone got one of these sofas and, if so, what is your opinion of it?.
if i had known then what i know now

I bought a leather sofa and chair (not that model) last year (18 months ago) I think you are right, cussions are fixed so moving them around to stop wear is not possible, thats the only downside with mine, other than that, the one I bought, is doing ok. I did pay £650 for mine tho, so I'm not sure what the quality of leather will be like.

I've had my eye on these as well. Our current cream ones we've had for 6 years and I'm sick of them.

When we were looking at them a couple of years back all the leather ones had fixed cushions, that was in all stores we looked at
  • bought some choc leathers last year, similar for £600. understand what you mean about fixed cushions but generally quality of leather is ok, not as soft or supple as the more expensive genuine leathers but cosmetically quite good value for money.

just one thing to remember about ordering sofas, make sure you can get them in through your front door when the delivery guys arrive.

also, if you ask, argos normally hold samples so you can 'try' before you buy. there is a telephone number in the home directory to order the fabric samples

    hope this helps x

the offer on the marcello ended tuesday

the reason for the varying quality in leather reflects the different budgets that argos tries to appeal to.

the budget sofas (think bari or pia for example) are exactly that - budget. you get a lot of sofa for your money with these deals. the leather is a fully corrected grain (which means the hide is treated to give it an even, uniform finish). it is then treated to make it durable and hardwearing, so ideal for a family with young children.

all the parts of the sofa you come into contact with when sitting on it (the seat, back of the seat and arms) will be leather. the sides and backs may be leather/leather match (vinyl which is treated to assimilate leather in its look and feel). this is especially true of reclining sofas/chairs. this should be clearly noted in the description of the product

with a premium leather sofa from argos (anything in the nuovo pelle range) will be supplied as a full leather sofa. the price you pay for these refelects this, as well as the fact that it is a better quality leather. again, these are (i believe) all fully corrected grain, but some have been treated to soften them (eg semi aniline leather). whilst this is softer to the touch, the downsides for some people is that this will mark much easier than the leather on our budget sofas (a no go for people with toddlers  ), and it has been designed to age. this means the leather will soften and loosen over time, which naturally will affect the appearance of the sofa.

    hope this helps

  • Has anybody bought this sofa yet? We have been looking at it and cannot tell if the seat cushions are fixed or not.

Anybody know the answer or have any reviews of this sofa?

    Thanks

  • Before any of you buy a sofa, I can strongly recomend that you check these guys out. I purchased my garden furniture and three peice suite from them and they gladly beat the price I found online.

I've had a pair of the Andria regular sofa's from Argos for about 6 months.
They look fine, the seat back cushions are loose, but the seat cushions are fixed.
The filling in the seat cushions seems to move towards the front of the sofa so you can feel the wooden frame underneath. You can sort of push it back into shape but it would be much much easier if the cushions were loose.

OK for the price - £400 for the pair, but next time I'll spend a bit more!
