using wipes as loo paper

several months ago friend won several packs of moistened toilet wipes, pampers wipes etc etc in a competition. friend went away recently and just found money that was for grocery shopping has been deducted from account without knowledge or consent- she e mailed complaint to people who took it but bank advised will be credited back by end of week. she needs to buy toilet tissue but thought would use these instead.
she asked me whether it is safe to use pampers wipes as toilet paper and flush this down loo. not sure- don't want to say yes just in case it blocks loo. thanks

There was a bit of a debate on here just recently and the general feeling was a big fat no no.0

Definitely a big NO NO!!
Even tissues or kitchen roll shouldn't be put down the loo as they can cause huge blockages.
Can't remember which way round, but the paper fibres are long for one type and short for the other. Point being loo-roll is designed to break up in water for obvious reasons, and tissues and kitchen roll are designed to maintain some strength when wet.You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
I always use wipes. If they are safe to use on a babys bottom they are good enough for me and I like feeling fresh.I also think you need less than if you were using looroll. The waste water companies have procedures anyhow for filtering waste out so I wouldnt be so worried.Cant see how this is worse than a towel or tampon.0

Normal adult moist toilet tissue is designed to be flushed, and is safe to do so.
Baby wipes are NOT and they clearly state on the packaging that they shouldn't be flushed.
If you block your own drains, it's going to be your financial responsibility to sort it out, so I wouldn't recommend it. If you block the communal drains, you will inconvenience yourself and your neighbours, so it's a fairly selfish thing to do.
So, homer, well done for asking the question. And I would concur with the "don't do it" advice.
They're not even THAT good for babies - our baby daughter has far less irritation from cotton wool and water than she used to with baby wipes.0 -
I use wipes after loo paper, but I have a lidded bin in the bathroom and they go in there. I line the bin with a tesco's plastic bag and empty it a couple of times a week. No problem......

My friend blocked her drains flushing sanitary towels down them.
I've always binned mine anyway, as if they sewarage is pumped out to see, towels wash back in on the tide :eek:Here I go again on my own....0 -
I read an article not so long ago that mentioned that the new 'luxury' toilet rolls (quilted etc) were causing havoc with peoples drains. Very good for plumbers business apparently!
Ask a plumber and I'm sure they'll tell you that you shouldn't dispose of sanitary products down the loo - I thought most packets had a warning about this too? I use Asda value - less than 50p for four I think. Hopefully your friend can find enough pennies down the sofa for that? (Tesco do the same)

Our drains have only blocked twice. Both times after using the 'new luxury quilted toilet tissue'.Love living in a village in the country side0

My sister used to use the kandoo wipes for her children, until she had a blockage and a VERY large bill. The plumber told her that only toilet tissue should go down the loo, anything else and you are risking a blockage.0

As has already been mentioned these are not to be flushed down the loo any more. Take a look on any packet and it says don't.
I agree with what has already been said. If it is flushable it will say on the packet. If not don't.
You should try not living on the main sewers then you would know what you should and should not throw down your loo.
