Homemade Jam/Jelly Experiment

Morning All
Someone was asking a while back about how long homemade jam/jelly lasts, do you have to refrigerate etc, so I thought that i would sacrifice an ounce of homemade jam as an experiment to put minds at rest.
I made 6 jars of black grape jelly about 1 month ago. I then filled a little glass dish with about 1/2 inch of jam (in alll honestly, all the jars were full & i was too sick of the smell to just eat it). I left it on the worktop for a month & there was no sign of anything growing at all. I have thrown it away now but i think if something didnt grow in that time in perfect gorwing conditions (warm kitchen, exposed the whole time) then the stuff in jars should last ages whilst sealed. The only caveat is that it did have quite a high sugar content because it was hard to set.
Hope this put someones mind at rest;)
