microwaved jam jars

Can I microwave my empty jam jars ready for jam making? Or would they crack? It would save me putting the oven on just for a few jars if I knew the answer!

I wouldn't be too eager to put them in without any water .... they could easily explode and cost you a whole heap moreGC - March 2024 -0

Thanks Zed, I was afraid someone would say that - hence why I asked. Oh well, I'd best start on a batch of biscuits to put in with them then0

While making some biscuits while sterilising your jam jars sounds very moneysaving, I just put some water in each jar and zap them in the microwave for a minute to boil to water. Obviously you can't do the lids in the microwave. If you pot the jam while its still very hot it will be sterile and that will actually sterilise the jam jar and lid. But if you are going to put near boiling hot jam into the jar the jar itself has to be hot.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
