I have another Q (if anyones still up)- where does 'cheek by jowl' come from?
I thought it was a Star Wars character...We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

Apparently, one can generate one's own smilies...
And some are much more violent than a simple rolleyes.....
Can't think where I'd use this one.......

It occurs to me that 1984 Returns For Real's username is especially prescient. Remove the 'words' and the thought may no longer be expressed.
It's a shame. The language of smilies is a bit like Yiddish - a shorthand way of cramming a intense amount of meaning into a single character (or word).
I'd just felt I'd rather mastered Smilish, and in fact was missing the opportunity to use it in other everyday communications eg emails, facebook etc.
And now it's gone for good.
Ah well.
Not sure I'm technically up to following davesnave's example.
Oh well.
I suppose I can always just go back to old posts and copy the smilies, but that would be cheating surely?
Would it be a PPR-able offence, I wonder? :undecided
Am having to dig up really obscure smilies now to convey my meaning.
Hmm.
Interesting exercise in thought control, certainly...0 -

Shame on you, Dave, smilies like that do not belong on a nice persons thread. Although, I think I will nick them.
I used to go on a forum with an "I'm with stupid" smilie, and a "!!!!!!" smilie, and I really miss them.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

It would probably be simpler of we all went back to choosing words to help convey what we wish to say.
How come the Nice People, Talking Nicely has gone off on one? Perhaps this thread needs some rules?
I too was shocked at DS tank smiley ...but I love it. I want one.0 -

Remember Graham Devon had a middle finger one he used a while back- which was very funny :AWe cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung
