Clip in hair extensions

Options
I have quite long but fine hair and would love thicker hair, actually I would love the Cheryl Cole look! (I think my hair needs some mojo and suspect it needs her hair extensions rather than pantene )

Anyway I can't afford hair extensions at the hair dressers and their hundred pound price tag, so wondered about the clip in versions.

I was in a shop today and was almost convinced to buy some but managed to walk away until I know a little more. I would have bought the hair and the clips separately, costing about £50 all together, and they apparently I had to cut the hair on the strips to the right length and the sew it to the clips.

However I was unsure about this and also about how I would position it in my hair.

Also can you wash and style this hair, ie curl it with GHD's etc??

Where is the best place to buy clip in hair extensions??

Any other tips??

To be honest they ruin your hair completely. In my opinion, not bad for a night out, but constant use, no. I have seen the damage to many peoples hair by these and it is just not worth it.

If you have a Sally Salon services near you they do clip in hair extensions relatively cheaply, or you could try ebay. I wouldn't bother with all this sew it yourself nonsense to be honest.

I bought some good quality clip in hair extentions and I only used them for the occassional night out. They are fiddly to clip in so that it looks natural and clips are not showing, and getting it all even. They just weren't practical for me everyday. You can however, do with them whatever you would do to your own hair, straighten, curl (assuming they are real hair and not synthetic). I even dyed mine. For what its worth, I'm not sure I like Cheryl Coles hair, its implausibly thick and bulky, but that's just my opinion.

Hi, I have clip in extensions and wear them everyday with absolutely no damage to my hair, in fact quite the reverse, as I now have long hair I can let my own hair grow without any traumas, this is a first for me;)the sewing clips in and all that sound terrible, tbh I've never heard of anything like that and for £50? The site I use is linked below, I have the Jessica Simpson wavy 23" in ginger brown, its synthetic hair (I wouldn't use real hair, but thats my choice) and you cant colour or style the extensions, keep them away from heat, you can wash them in very cool water and mild shampoo and allow to dry naturally and they look as good as new (with the wavy ones I scrunch them a little when wet) they last about 3 months if you look after them. They are easy to clip in, takes me a couple of mins at most and look great and they are very light, I get a lot of compliments about my hair, again, a first for me;) The site I have linked is the cheapest I have found online for this product, if you do any better please let me know, but I have happily used them for over a year and never had a problem, product arrives the next day - hth:)

edit - forgot to say you can also phone up and have a chat with them about which colour etc, I did this at first and they were really helpful.

Glowgirl, do these synthetic extentions look as good as real hair? They look fab on the website, the chestnut colour looks bang on for my colour. Tempted.

My daughter also uses the ones from Sally's, every day, with no damage to her own hair. She also has some bright pink and blue ones to jazz it up a wee bit depending on her outfit for a night out.

  • Ohh thanks glow girl I had considered synthetic as I didn't really fancy real hair either, if they look as good as real hair then I think that is definatly the way to go.

Yes, they are just gorgeous, if anything at first they are a bit too shiny and healthy looking:rotfl:they do dull slightly down after a couple of weeks and still look great, I went to the hairdressers the other day with someone else and the hairdresser said I had beautiful hair and couldn't believe they were extensions, I honestly wouldn't be without them, the colour I have is mainly mid brown with a few red hints that can really only be seen in the light, if this helps on my laptop the colour I have (ginger brown) is identical to the pic, so I think the colours you see are a very good representation, ask away if you need to know anything else:)

I use clips ins too (ready made sets from ebay either real hair or synthetic) for the odd night out and I really like them!

With a bit of practice, they're not much effort to put in and to conceal the clips.

As other posters have said you can get the knack of it pretty easily. Sally's is the best place to buy them as they are inexpensive and the staff can give you advice on how to put them in. Practice makes perfect- whilst I've never used them other people suggest you tie your hair up and clip them to the bottom of your head so they blend in.

Otherwise you might want to consider ponytail extensions? I used these constantly when my hair was short (too short for regular extensions) and you simply tie them round your own ponytail or they attach with combs. People always thought it was my real hair, and they're a fun, quick way to bulk up your hair and give you an impossibly sleek hairstyle.
