The RRP that you are referring to is set by the manufacturer, and not necessarily the price that the retailer will charge, so I wouldn't go down that line of argument.
No harm in trying to haggle though, even if they throw in a mouse mat it is better than nothing! xGone ... or have I?0 -
always haggle in pc world, currys and the like.
normaly you can get more ou of them by taking coverplan out, but its now on a month by month basis so u can get a exra few quid knocked off, and then cancel it after a month. id normally expect to get 7% off anything over the £200 in my experience, if possible i always found going in a couple of times and seeing what the best they can do is, a good comparison from comet to show them a similar spec n deal etc always helps aswell.0 -
I always haggle if i am paying for an Item over £100
I went into ernest jones and wanted to items that would have cost £236.xx And spund a story about it being my dads b-day and liked both items they done both of them for £165.xx . They make around 140% mark up on jewlery so its easy to get the price down on that.
As for PC world you can haggle but there staff are so stupid they prob wont know what your doing lol0 -

Oh, yes - not me personally, but I used to regularly witness my Dad haggling between Dixons and Currys (?) on the High Street of Basingstoke:
He'd go into Currys, get advice on the best thing to buy, then go to Dixons and say "I want one of these, but cheaper".
Once he'd got Dixons down to a reasonable price, he'd go back to Currys and say "well I'd like to buy it from you, but Dixons are doing it for £X."
Price beaten by Currys - job done.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

technically, according to law, the price on the shelf is known as an 'invitation to treat'
what that means is when you rock up to the counter, you have to make them an offer for the item. generally we take it to mean that the price on the shelf is the price you pay. but you can always haggle for big items
as a rule though, i would NEVER buy expensive items from large high street chains. the reason is, they tend to sell at the maximum possible price (ie the RRP) nowadays, especially with the internet, there are loads of cheaper outlets. no harm in going into dixons and the like to get a feel for an item and see the range, make them an offer but remember you can probably get it a lot cheaper on the web0 -
haggle anywhere. play one store off against the other. even haggled succesfully in sainsburysTheoretically there is a perfect possibility of happiness: believing in the indestructible element in oneself and not striving towards it0

last time i haggled it was in a show shop.. 55 pound shoes reduced to 35.. I went to the desk and asked if 'there was anything they could do about the price' ? ta-da.. I paid 28 pounds for them.
Haggle, always, just ask, there's no harm - I'd always see if they can throw things in or knock a few quid off0 -
Just start off by saying something like.
Hi (look at name badge) bob
I really like this product . But its a little bit over my budget is there anything you can do. (dont say anything leave the ball in there court)
A few tips
1.Dont take there first offer as they can always go lower than it.
2. Be prepeared to walk away more often than none they will call you back and say ok sir/madam we can give you this with it aswell for that price ....0
