Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman have signed 25 copies of their Long Way Down books for Caf!direct and we are giving you the opportunity to win one!
In the book, Ewan and Charley recount their epic motorcycle journey from John O’Groats to Capetown. Their adventures across Europe and Africa included a stop-off in Uganda, where they travelled through the northeast of the country to meet our grower partners at the Gumutindo coffee cooperative.
Our partners at Gumutindo grow the highest quality coffee beans on the lush green slopes of Mount Elgon, for you to grind at home and make delicious tasting coffee. Gumutindo means “excellent coffee” in the local language and Mount Elgon coffee beans certainly live up to the cooperative’s name. During their visit, Ewan and Charley had the opportunity to taste the coffee grown on Mount Elgon and saw firsthand how Fairtrade and Caf!direct’s long-term partnerships have positively impacted coffee growers’ lives in Gumutindo.
Since 1991, we have been working in partnership with small-scale growers like those at Gumutindo. As well as always paying our growers above market prices, we also reinvest an average of 60% of our annual profits back into their businesses to fund training and development programmes.
