Gravy ???

I need help again :o

I have cooked a turkey and put all the juices into a bowl.

It has now seperated in to 2 layers which I guess is fat and stock ???

How do I get the fat off the top without losing the stock - is there an easy way of doing this ???

Feel a bit silly for asking but thanks in advance

Txx

Wait for it to cool, the fat will solidify. Simple!
Just be careful breaking through it to get to the juices...!

If you can't wait, ladle the fat off carefully.
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

I'm assuming it's still in liquid form Tashja. If so, and you need it soon then I would just carefully lower a tablespoon down so it JUST goes under the layer of fat and let the spoon slowly fill. You'l need to do this several times and you will probably get a little bit of stock in at the same time. Just aim to remove MOST of the fat.

You can buy a little gadget called a Gravy Separator for future problems.

You can get a special jug. LOOK HERE

You could let the fat set, then remove and add the juices with just a small amount of fat to the gravy.

Or the hit and miss option, used by me on many occasions :o just pour.

  • A slice of bread on top will soak it up. I've done this a ton of times. Be careful the bread doesn't break though which it will if you're a cheapo like me and use both sides of the bread.

Thats a good idea and then you could put the bread out for the birds. They'd love it. :T

    Hi Tashja ;)

I pour my meat juices into a tall but not very wide jug then use something to take the fat off the top or pour it off - its easier than doing it when its in the roasting dish :)

I have one of the jugs the others have mentioned but find mine doesn't hold much - I should have got a bigger one.
