*Giant Jaffa Cake* went sooo wrong......

I thought I`d give this a try over the weekend, 1st I put the jelly to set in a bowl, then thought it would be better on a plate, then after reading the tip about clingfilm, decided on that, ended up having jelly everywhere & had to scrape the jelly off the clingfilm. Then the chocolate wouldn`t melt properly ended up adding a little milk to it,which worked better. Result: One messy looking tart :eek: but it was extremely delicious & all the family loved it. Its definitely be introduced into the family weekend treats, but hopefully will be a better looking one next time:rotfl:0

I had the same problm when I made my first giant jaffa cake. I made up the jelly, poured it onto the sponge and then watched as the sponge soaked up all of my jelly! Doh!! I made it again, but this time I semi-set the jelly in a bowl in the fridge, sort of chopped it up in small pieces with a spoon (if that makes sence!) and then spooned the partially set jelly over the sponge. I put it back in the fridge and it set beautifully!MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. But did the jaffa cake look alright? :rotfl: :rotfl:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
This happened with my first attempt too - so i have a large parcel of orange jelly sponge in the freezer - intending to make trifle sometime... waste not, want not!
Made it again today - used the cling film method and it worked perfectly! I put some apricot jam in with the jelly to give it extra 'tartness' so will report back on that. Think I may have too much chocolate (is there such a thing?) on top, but it covers any imperfections in the jelly!! Didn't have any cream in to 'soften' the chocolate so we can cut it - does anyone know if milk/plain yoghurt may have worked? Or even a bit of hot water?
Taking it into work tomorrow - cutting it might prove a challenge!!"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;

DEFINITELY NOT water - it will make the chocolate 'sieze', so its only fit for dumping.
I'm not sure about yoghurt, evaporated milk works fine, and oil (okay, doesn't sound appetising) would work, its how they do chocolate for chocolate fountains - but be very careful with amounts, as you don't want it to never set!0 -
I did exactly the same soggy flan. Should of let the jelly nearly set and then pour it on. Instead it the jelly just soaked up in the sponge. diaster!!2025 Decluttering 10472⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've made the garry rhodes one too successfully. I make the jelly part (his recipe is orange packet jelly made up with orange juice) in a dish lined with cling film and then add it to the flan case once its set.x x x0
