But there will be lots of 'orrible boys there and, I expect some timid girls.
Can you suggest games please.
Thanks in advance.

is the party themed at all? i find theming helps come up with games. You can always go for the old faves like musical statues, and some kind of balloon popping one0

I am having the party with another Mum and have convinced her not to pay 100.00 for an entertainer, so have to come up with some gooduns!0

Do you have much space?
What about ring on a string, always a favourtie with family and children parties.
You need a long piece of string, place a ring on and tie the end together. Everyone stands/sits in a circle with someone in the middle. The guesser in the middle has to work out where the ring is whilst everyone else passes it round. Once the guesser has found it he swaps with the person that had the ring. This can go on as long as you want.
If there is room a good game is having two lengths of rope with pegs on (need people to hold the rope), split the children into two teams and they race one at a time to remove the pegs into a basket and then put them back on again.
If I can think of any more will let you know.0 -
Goodness that sounds like a perfect one. Please keep them coming.
I am going to do this, will use an old plastic ring.
Because children get bored terribly easily (Not £100.00 worth of being bored of course) I need games like this to keep them interested.0 -
Should have added we are doing this, the first proper school party in a hall.
Next year the children can pick 8 mates and it will be in my house.0 -
I didn't read the peg one, thats fabby as well. Keep 'em coming0

Hedgehogs
Everyone runs round. Shout Hedgehogs, everyone curls up in a ball on the floor, eyes shut no peeping!Cover 1 child with a blanket. The rest then kneel up and try to guess who is under the blanket.
Corners
Name each of the 4 corners of the room (to fit in with the theme if there is one) Everyone runs round. Shout corners. Everyone chooses a corner to run to. An adult who is not watching says the name of 1 of the corners. Everyone stood in that corner is out.0 -
"Simon says" always went down well with the kids at our parties. As did pin the tail on the donkey. They also loved a crafty type game where they decorated an empty egg shell and then put damp cotton wool inside and sprinkled on cress seeds. These were taken home and grown on window cills around the area (sorry Mums:o ). Another crafty one (which is best done with some covers on tables/floors is to give each a blown up round balloon and put a box of scrap fabric and paper and (non-sharp) bits and pieces in the middle and they have to make faces on the balloons with hats/hair/etc. Glue can be messy - so you do have to warn people not to put the kids in best designer clothes before they come ( ).
Musical chairs is still another popular one - but we found it easier with cushions instead of chairs and did have a few bumps and tears sometimes.
I would have to say that I at first thought that my "cheap and cheerful" old fashioned parties would not be that popular with the more sophisticated young ones these days - but they were and the school teacher told me that the kids were always more excited about my hands on parties than they were about the ones with bouncy castles or clowns - and that they appeared to get especial pleasure from the fact that I could be relied upon to join in and make an idiot of myself
. "there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
I know moggylover, I have been to parties where the earth was on offer and the kids enjoyed it but still wanted to do the same thing, run around screaming & shouting and killing each other whilst ignoring the very expensive entertainment.
Coxy I am loving that one. That is a definite as well. When you think about it. 5 plus some 4 year olds at a party have the attention span of air and want quick stuff to play. I am thinking if each game takes 5 minutes, I need at least 6.:rotfl:0 -
Decorating biscuits always goes down well. Use rich tea biscuits, make some thick icing in various colours and let them loose with 100s & 1000s,smarties,chocolate buttons etc. Leave to set and eat after tea.0
