Please register for either a hedge or a copse pack.
You can also apply for a Seeds To Trees Kit.
THESE PACKS WILL BE DELIVERED TO SCHOOLS IN MARCH 2009
Copse Pack Hedgerow Pack Seeds To Trees Kit The Copse Pack contains 30 native trees which are suitable for planting as a small wooded area or 'copse'. Your pack will be made up of: 10 of each - Birch, Rowan, Cherry.
The spacing of the trees will depend on your individual requirements and the area you have allocated for the trees. However as a guide they can be planted from 2m apart (for a very dense wooded area) up to 5m apart or more. The wider the spacing the more room there will be between the trees for the children to explore and it will mean less thinning of the trees in future years. These are all medium size trees and will generally need more space than the hedgerow pack. The hedgerow pack containing 30 plants of the following species:
6 of each - Hawthorn, Hazel, Holly, Dog rose, Dogwood.
The trees can be planted as a traditional hedgerow and provide an excellent habitat for wildlife.
If planted as a single row they should ideally be spaced 30cm apart, if they are going to be a thick double row hedge then they should be planted 50cm apart and each parallel row 40 - 45cm from the other. Therefore you will need an area where you can plant the hedge that is approximately 8m long.
The kit contains all the materials required to sow and germinate a tray of Silver birch trees. Within the kits are Silver birch seed, peat free compost, a modular tray – enough for 32 Silver birch trees to grow, and full sowing and growing instructions.
We have chosen Silver birch seed as it’s reasonably easy to germinate and is not a large tree when mature, therefore it’s more suitable for planting in a variety of locations including urban sites such as school grounds or community gardens. Silver birch is also tolerant of different ground conditions.

I emailed DT Browns to tell them we had recently started a gardening club. I told them were were running a shoebox garden competition and could they spare anything for prizes. They sent me a dozen packs of seeds and a couple of gardening books.
Have to contacted you LEA to see if they are offering any grants or support? We recieved £150 worth of tools from a scheme in our LEA.
There is also the million greenfingers campaign run by Yorkshire Water which offers up to £500 worth of assistance, if your school is chosen:

I tried talking to my local B&Q and Homebase but they weren't particularly forthcoming. B&Q said that any requests would need to go through head office.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0
