Hey everyone,
I thought I would let you know about an excellent site I stumbled across last night called emusic (https://www.emusic.com) - it seems to be a new arrival in the UK although it's been going in the US for some time. It's basically like iTunes except cheaper and has more obscure stuff than they do and not so much mainstream stuff.
If you sign up for a free trial, you get 25 free MP3 tracks, yes that's MP3s, as in works with every MP3 player, iPod and car stereo in the land, plus it's not protected so you can do what you want with it!
If you only listen to what's in the top 40 you're probably not going to find much you'd want to download but I certainly filled my boots and was able to get three complete albums for free plus a few odd tracks.
There's an absolute ton of different musical styles including Indie (Belle and Sebastian's new one is there, as well as Snow Patrol, Jose Gonzalez... loads!), Prog (Rick Wakeman, Frost, Echolyn, Porcupine Tree) and a fair number of golden oldies if you're after some odd tracks.
You need a credit card to sign up but once you've had your 25 free tracks you can cancel immediately and keep the MP3s. Or alternatively, you can stay subscribed and pay a monthly fee to download a certain number of tracks (working out from about 20p per track depending on your monthly tariff.)
I cancelled no questions asked about 30 minutes after joining up and grabbing my 25 songs.
Although, my tip is not to cancel immediately like I did because if you find a friend to refer to the site, you'll get another 50 free tracks on your account! So there's plenty of free MP3s to be had here if you can find enough you'd like to download! I could certainly have downloaded a couple of hundred of tracks if I had the credits.
I apologise if this sounds like a commercial but I thought this was pretty cool!

Hi,
Go through GreasyPalm and get 3 quid cashback as well. I signed up last year for a few months - the website design and navigation is fantastic, but I did eventually run out of music that I wanted. Great freebie though !
HTH,

Yes you're right, sorry!
I'll change it now.
Listening to my free MP3s now - I got three albums I was planning to buy, saved myself around £40!

Like I said, it's not crammed full of the latest chart releases, but there's a good range of stuff there. I certainly managed to find about 10 albums I would have wanted to download.

Well, that's it, even if you can find 10 songs you want that's still £7.90 saved from the iTunes price!

You can bump from the 25 to 50 if you link through this address:
http://www.emusic.com/europeanlaunch50
You're right, it's not full of the latest chart tunes, but do a bit of digging and you'll find some really good stuff in there. I just found a load of stuff worth downloading when I realised I'd got to my download limit.
You have to give your CC details but once you've subscribed you can download your 50 tunes and cancel straight away. I did cancel, though some part of me does feel rather guilty about it. The deals are pretty good, you can pay £14.99 per month and get 90 downloads. That's about 16p per track! Compared with iTunes it's a bit cheap. You have to wonder about a new dot.com that gives so much free stuff away... This link for 50 free tunes was given out at the launch party where I got to see Basement Jaxx for free. How much money are these people spending, will they see a decent return??
It's not sneaky either - it won't let you go over your free 50 tunes without properly clicking a button to subscribe for more. So go get some free legal tunes!0 -
Its a great find but how easy is it to cancel? What do you have to do please? I am a little reluctant to put my CC details in - Thanks0
