Cute, home-made gift/stocking filler. Crayon nibbles.

I 'stumbled' across a site last night with a great idea for a cute kids gift 'crayon nibbles' - see here:

I've just made them with my kids (age 8 & 11). They're really good fun, and very easy to make. They look so nice when they are finished.
Placed in a cellophane bag they would make a great stocking filler too.
Hope this is of use to someone else too.

Hello again,
I thought I'd post the photos of the 'crayon nibbles' that I made. I made 20 in total out of the stack of crayons we found (see photo). I used a standard size cake tin/baking tray. I think a deeper muffin tin would be better. Unfortunately 4 of the 'crayon nibbles' broke when I was getting them out of the tin - they refused to budge and I had to whack the bottom of the tin with a hammer.
PHOTO 1: Stack of crayons, paper stripped and ready for breaking up. This is quite time consuming but therapeutic!

PHOTO 2: Broken up crayons in tin, ready to be baked. This photo shows a rainbow mix in each. The first batch I did, I put one colour in each hole.

I have found that some crayons (possibly cheaper ones) didn't seem to melt as well as others so you can still see whole bits of crayons in some of them. Also if you bake them too long you don't get as good a 'marble' effect.
I noticed that Poundstretcher have some silicon baking trays, which may lend themselves well to making these. Shaped baking tins/moulds would be ideal too.:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
Do you think that you could put cake cases (white paper) in the tray first, bake and then peel paper off? Haven't got any crayons at the mo to try with:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Hmmm.....Me thinks this could work. Next time I make a load I'll try it on one to see what happens. They'd look really cute in the paper cases too - especially if you were giving them as a gift....As long as the little ones realise they're crayons and not cakes....yuk!:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0
