after posting before i still have had no joy in contacting littlewoods index regarding the faulty chainsaw i am trying to get fixed...i was told by power devil to write to alba (their head office) to see if they could help seeing as it is them who make the blooming thing....no joy - just got letter back saying to get back on to index....
tried three times this morning - still no joy - can anyone help at all? how can i get it fixed if they just arent going to answer?

In the swindon Index they have posters directing you to the nearest argos, I assume Argos are taking over some of their stores?
Could be worth asking if they are dealing with Index returns?0 -
i have asked - they arent - i was given first one number then another - then told littlewoods should honour this as they are the parent company - they have now told me they have no responsibility in this matter - i tried the maker of the chainsaw who told me it was up to littlewoods....aarrghghhg - soooooo p,. off0

Power devil/alba are the people you need not index now as closed you have a guarantee with the manufacturer for 12 months ? and if you have your receipt then its them that have to deal with this they have a legal obligation to sort it replace or repair£2.00 savings club =£2.000

alba/power devil are denying this - i thought this was the case but they are just telling me it isnt their responsibility - do you have any evidence i can present to them telling them this is the law please?
thanks0 -

Your contract is with Index not the manufacturer, as Index have closed you have no rederess against the manufacturer, they may do something but it would only be a goodwill gesture, did you pay by CC and was the product over £100. if so you can claim against the CC company.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
unfortunately i paid by cash - it was £59.99 - it is so unfair that i am now out of pocket - the firm knew they were shutting down yet were still taking orders and selling goods up to the last day of trading - surely i should have some rights some where......0

I'm not siding with Index here mate, but to be fair to them, they WERE selling goods up to the last day of trading at GREATLY REDUCED PRICES. Everyone knew they were shutting down and the reductions were making acount for the fact that when you purcase, once they have shut down you have no come back because they are gone.
On the plus side for you, the manufacturers SHOULD provide a warranty so if I was you I would get onto them again quick smart and tell them you will contact TS if they don't do something. Then I would contact TS anyway and see what they say.
Good luck getting is sorted

i knew index were selling stuff off cheap, but, this wasnt one of them - i am wary of buying big items on the cheap and usually shop at argos anyway, but, they didnt have a chainsaw in stock that day, hence, i went to index - i actually never thought of the fact they were shutting down having a bearing on what i was buying - very niave me.........
i have phoned trading standards up and they said i dont have any case - my only comeback is with index but if they have shut down noone else is legally responsible, but, she told me to write to the manufacturer and implore to their better nature that for the sake of their good name they actually repair it - it did break after the first use after all..............
i just feel soooooooooo fed up of the whole thing - but, i have wrote the letter and will see what they say
thanks0 -
Awwwwwww hun i am so sorry you are getting these negative replies and do wish you well with the manufacturer.
Also I would question the TS reply and suggest you look up consumer rights as this has to be a flaw surely. why have a Sale of Goods Act why have a 12 month manufactures warranty and if Index had been open or even if you bought from a smaller independant I am sure they would both have told you that the fault would need to be looked at by the manufacturer and they would send it away for repair or replacement or advise you to have done the same.
Look at it from another point of view say (thankfully it never happened) the chainsaw had a major fault and it caused you some harm although index is no longer trading you would still have a case to claim compensation for damages to yourself and the chainsaw from the manufacturer and they would I am sure have to pay out if you took them to court for manufacturing faulty goods so how can they say they have no responsibility....
If you get no joy with your letter I would suggest you contact yout local papers consumer advice pages for there backup they love to challenge the big wigs at this sort of thing£2.00 savings club =£2.000 -
i have wrote a second time to the manufacturer and will post as to what their reply is................thanks for your advice.................0
