left over butter icing

hi everyone

i made a birthday cake last night but, because it was a bit of a 'throw it in and hope' job, i've left myself with half a bowl of chocolate butter icing.

does anyone have any idea what i can do with it? i don't really want to throw it away, but the only idea i've come up with so far is spreading it on biscuits and eating them

thanks very much - hope you can do better than i have so far!

It freezes ;) Bung it in the freezer and save it for the next cake.

When you say butter icing, do you mean buttercream - icing sugar, cocoa powder, butter? You can freeze that. I do it all the time - I make cupcakes for delis as a sideline and I freeze and use it the next week. Works fine and you really can't tell.

If not, and you really want to make something, then try cake balls - mix leftover cake crumbs with the butter icing and roll with your hands into little balls. Refrigerate to go hard, then you can dip them in melted chocolate. Also add your fave liqueur if it's not for kids - great with baileys or amaretto.

frugallass and sooz - i did do a bit of that last night, but forced myself to put the rest in the fridge.

those truffly cake ball things sound yummy sarahs, i think i'll bung it in the freezer for now and then maybe try those when i have the time to do it.

wonderful, i knew oldstyle would come to the rescue!

    have a great afternoon

It'll keep in the fridge for as long as the butter is good ;) I'd save it there and make another cake next week :D
