Fresh Bread bags?

Options
Having invested in a bread maker I was going to purchase one of the bread bags from Lakeland but there is only one positive review. Does anyone here have one or do you have any suggestions for an alternative?

I have one of the bread bags from lakeland and love it. Really useful if you make your own - hope that helps!

    Is this the cloth bags?
Have you viewed the See all reviews at the bottom, there are quite a lot of positive reviews.

I have tried the Breathable Bread Bags, not impressed. They do not fit home made bread and split easily.

Invariably some bread seems to go mouldy! I use the insides of large cereal packets as far as I can. I bought (shock horror) a large pack of large plastic bags from Lakeland a long time ago, as they were the only ones I could find big enough, to use when I had run out of cereal bags.

Got some iffy bread, so going to make some stuffing balls today I think.

What about turning it into breadcrumbs and freezing it to either use as a coating or for bread sauce later.

Ahem, can only use so many breadcrumbs in the freezer! I already have some there for a treacle tart. My son's observation, after I sent him to the cellar to put something in, was that we should start eating things out of it, rather than putting things in!

I hate bread sauce, so never think of making it. DH loves it though, so maybe I should add it to a list somewhere. Apparently, as a child, he used to have sausages with breadsauce on the weekly menu.

THinking about going to Lakeland later, need a potato peeler, but also the mincer/sausage maker!

I know the feeling, I recently had to run down my freezer as it had become faulty, so I could get a new one.
It took me nearly a month to eat the contents, it's amazing how much you can get in your freezer and how little of it you use.

It always makes me laugh that I take a small pack of meat/fish out, make a meal and end up putting a portion back in that was bigger than the item that came out :D

  • Don't know about Lakeland ones, but I found that Wilkinson's Medium food bags are the perfect size for the loaves from my breadmaker! They are only 19p for a pack (not sure how many - maybe 20?) and we shake them out afterwards and reuse each one several times, so it is very economical!

  • I have the cloth Lakeland bread bag and I love it. I certainly think it extends the life of the bread by a day or so.
