Does anyone know an easy recipe for blackberry jam (not blackberry & apple as i have no apples). Every recipe i've looked up has apple in it. I don't have any proper jam sugar so i'm assuming i'll need to add lemon juice as they appear to be low in pectin?
Thanks
Thanks

2lb blackberries
quarter of a pint of water
juice of 2 lemons
sugar.
Simmer berries, lemon juice and water in a pan until soft. Measure the result in a pint measure, and for each pint of simmered fruit add 1 lb of sugar. Bring this all to the boil and boil rapidly until setting point is reached. Pot up as usual.
I use the method of putting a little jam in a saucer and floating it on cold water to test for setting point.
Hope this helps. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

morning kippers,
It looks like i wasn't the only one making blackberry jam last night...have you tried some of yours yet? I had some on toast this morning....Sooooo good!0 -
Yes, it was lovely. We also had it for breakfast.
I bought some sugar yesterday from my local shop as i hadn't enough and it cost me 89p (which i know is alot but i'm not going shopping at Mr T's for another week). This means i made 5 jars for 89p!....Brilliant...i'm really pleased with this.
I got the blackberries from my allotment (not my plot but other vacant areas), so i will go again in a couple of days and freeze some to have in my porridge during the winter, yum yum!0 -
Glad to have been of help.:jIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

Jam sugar doesn't have to contain pectin, it's just a sugar that is easier to dissolve. I don't always use it, I use either castor or ordinary and the jam is fine. It just depends on the fruit whether I add lemon juice, some fruits don't need it.0 -
After reading all the advice on this and other blackberry related threads, I am now the proud owner of 3 and a half jars of blackberry jam!!! Thank you LameWolf for your simple recipe - I'd avoided any recipes which mentioned a jelly bag as I can't afford one after checking how much they cost on the lakeland site. Thanks also to Queen.Bess for the delicious Blackberry Yoghurt Ice Cream recipe. I feel another foraging session in the forest is in the making!0

We have a family business selling cookware and our jelly bags are only £1.99, they are washable and reuseable so you don't need to avoid recipes requiring one. You can also use a baby muslin or cloth instead. Hope this helps you - jsut going to make some of this jam now - thanks for the recipe! x0 -
