Hello,
I have some steaks to cook today.
Has anybody got a nice recipe for the slow cooker? I have checked the collection, and I can't find one (I don't want to cut the steaks into strips or cubes).
Thanks!

Braise them in some stock with onions and maybe a tablespoon of tomato puree and a splash of wine or stout, how hard is that? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

you might find if they are lean steaks they will simply dissolve,
I cooked some "lean braising steak " in a slow cooker a few weeks back and it all disintegrated, there was simply not enough fat to keep it all together.
I personally wouldnt bother, Id use a griddle pan, washed round with a splash of port ( did this last week!) and it was utterly gorg. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Lean steaks for grilling are best grilled
or fried quickly.
For slow cooking you need braising steaks. If that's what you've got I'd brown them in a pan, then brown some onions and transfer the lot to the slow cooker. Pour over some liquid - stout, red wine or stock. Some herbs wouldn't go amiss either, and salt and pepper. Cook for 8 hours on low.0 -
Evening everyone...
I bought a lot of Asda medallion beef steaks earlier in the week cos they were 3x packets for £9.
However, I have been distracted by other stuff for the last few days and have discovered they expire tomorrow!!
Can anyone suggest a nice slow cooker recipe? I think they best thing for me to do is a batch cook and fill my freezer, but I am short on ideas!
Thanks in advance

Oh - I have leeks and coconut and tamarind sauce and lots of other herbs and spices in the cupboard as well...0

Plus I have a bottle of beer - recipes with beer perhaps? Desperate for inspiration because I think I ought to sling something in overnight cos of the use-by date...0

I would suggest one curry and one hearty beef stew.
The tamarind and the spices, added to small cubes of potatoes and frozen peas, with plenty of chilli powder, garam masala, chopped tomatoes and lemon juice (add a small amount of sugar as well), will help with the curry. All you need to do is coarsely chop one large onion, add three finely chopped cloves of garlic to a large pan with 2 tablespoons of oil, and seal the beef. Add the other ingredients, plus chopped coriander, bring to the boil and chuck the lot in the slow cooker.
Get a good recipe for beef stew off the net, and you have two different dishes to feed you for a couple of days.

If its beef, I personally wouldnt worry too much about the use by date, ( and before anyone says anything, no I dont do it in the restaurant, I am governed by labelling and use bys for customers, but I do often save "off cuts" or steaks for our personal use alot longer, as we all prefer the taste of older beef, we find the flavour is more intense the longer / darker it is and we like it, sadly gone are the days of almost black beef from the butcher! though I totally understand it isnt for everyone before I get told off! )
I know you said you wanted slow cooker recipes, but if you have a mincer, or perhaps even a grater attachment on a food processor if not?) I would maybe mince a pack for burgers /spag bol / chilli / lasagne, just for varietyOr if they arent pre frozen just freeze a pack for later?
If none of the above, then definately beef in ale stew for sure though if you want simply to batch cook one thing and you already have the beer

Not much help for the recipe but I totally agree with you Jexy!! I love seeing the beef reduced cos its slightly grey but still well within its date. Nobody will touch it cos the colour puts then off but its only that colour because of the air getting to it. Lets face it the best beef is the beef hung the longest and exposed to air!!!
I too used to work in kitchens and was governed by dates and understand it isnt for some folks but I am with you whole heartedly on this oneEmma
