Food Processor dilema!

My dear hubbie has offered to get me a food processor for my birthday in June. Problem is - as always - we are very short of money!
I have seen one we cant "really" afford on Amazon that I think I would really like its a Kenwood Chrome with a 1.5 litre bowl and 1.5 litre liquidiser.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00064X9XU/sr=1-5/qid=1147427603/ref=sr_1_5/026-5041856-8451663?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=kitchen&v=glance
There is 1 cheaper still that is called a Kenwood FP116 but it ionly has the bowl element but has all same attachments it's capacity is only 0.8litres. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000C6Z17/sr=1-1/qid=1147427327/ref=sr_1_1/026-5041856-8451663?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=kitchen&v=glance
Having never had my own food processor before I'm not sure how restirctive 0.8litres capacity would be? I would like to make my own cakes, My hand blender has currently broken I am thinking if I got the more expensive processor this would also cover my blending needs and I like the idea of making smoothies. I also make my own coleslaw but I'm sure the smaller blender is fine for most chopping and whisking requirements.
If I can make do on the cheapy one I gues it would be more sensilbe to get that and buy another handblender for £5 from Argos. I can then upgrade to a superduper fancy FP in 2-3 years time. Can anyone let me know if 0.8lites is a managable capacity for me? or talk me into buying the one I really want!
Thanks!

How about getting a good condition kenwood chef 900 series off ebay? They are incredible workhorses and better built than later models. A lot of people swear by them.
these go for years and years and you can pick them up for about £50 in mint condition if you look on ebay etc. The attachments for this model are always around cheaply so you could then add a sausage maker, icecream maker, potato peeler etc etc as your needs change over the years.
It's what I'd ask for cos them I could gradually collect further attachments over the years for pressies too.
It's on my wish list but it's only me and my baby at the moment so I can't justify it - the man of my dreams would propose by presenting one of these instead of a ring (prob why I'm still single lol!)0 -
I'd agree that if you want to make cakes, you can't beat a Kenwood Chef. A food processor is not so good for this task, although better for others (slicing veg for example). I got mine for £5 in a charity shop (!) but you can get good second hand ones off ebay as the above poster has said.0

I'd love a kenwood chef *swoons*
i have also seen some on freecycle, but Ive never been quick enough off the mark to get one. If I dont get one before, its going on my wedding list! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I got mine at a car boot sale last year for £10 - its great!Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

my kenwood is like the first (larger)one in the OP's links, except mine is white. It has all the same accessories.I use it for everything. If you were thinking of using it for bread,it wont handle enough dough for 2 loaves.I used to make 4 at a time and had to mix the dough up in 3 batches. Now my breadmaker handles that. The smaller one probably wont manage larger cake mixes and definitely not christmas cake.
I find the ordinary bowl isnt as good as the blender for getting soups really smooth or for chopping up peanuts if you make your own peanut butter.
A kenwood chef is lovely of course but the accessories are all extras not usually standard issue.0 -
I've got the second one on your list, and its brill for chopping veg, making breadcrumbs etc and it can make an average sized cake mix, but you couldn't make a big cake as it wouldn't be big enough....i find it just the right size for me, and it was more in my budget0

Is it definitely a Kenwood you are after? Just that Which recently reviewed a number of food processors/blenders/smoothies, if you want the details of which were their best buys etc, please PM me.There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0

Many years ago, a work colleague's father bought his wife (her mum) an iron and ironing board for Christmas. He set it all up in the kitchen and took her through to "surprise" her with his choice of gift - I bet it was a surprise too!!!There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0
