As the front man of the Clash from 1977 onwards, Joe Strummer changed people’s lives forever. A musical icon and political activist, Strummer was never shy about saying what was on his mind and meaning it. He was a voice of a generation, which still resonates today.
The Future Is Unwritten: Joe Strummer is a biopic that contains never seen before footage of Strummer, including studio sessions, archive and early childhood footage, interviews with followers such as Martin Scorsese, Bono, members of The Red Hot Chili Peppers and other friends. Mick Jones, Topper Headon and other musical associates recounts their stories and opinions.
Drawing on both a shared punk history and the close personal friendship that developed over the last years of his life, Julien Temple’s film is a celebration of Strummer’s life – before, during and after the Clash.
The Future Is Unwritten: Joe Strummer is out in cinemas from 18 May, while the film soundtrack is released on 7 May.
