    Evening folks,

The BTL flat I am working on at the moment had a power cut in three of the blocks today. The power went off at 1pm, and was still off at 4pm when I left.

Four lots of neighbours knocked to enquire why I still had music on. I pointed out the extension lead going out the window into my car with this thing in the accessory socket powering my inspection light & radio:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003UP6ZAG/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

One of the neighbours was looking after her six week old niece, and had no way to warm feeds for her. I felt so sorry for her, but had no way to help.

Perhaps in a real SHTF situation I should be more careful about playing music. Lesson learned there, I think.
  • Good lesson to take on board jk0,if possible always appear to be in the same situation as everyone else, never look, act or sound different, blend in don't stand out in any way, dissapear into the general background if you can invisible and unseen is good!!!

    Do you reckon??
    :rotfl::rotfl:

    I was in absolute stitches!
The things they come up with to get folks to pay through the nose for something that is perfectly normal is hilarious.
:D Yeah, the amount of times I've seen something new being marketed and thought; No one will be daft enough to fall for that one............ And it sells like the proverbial hot cakes. Shows all I know, eh? The old saying has it that a fool and his money are easily parted but in some cases, you're left to wonder how they ever got together in the first place!

:D Ladies and gennelmen, I would like to share some good fortune which came upon me today; I am now a dollar millionairess.

That's the good news; the bad news is that it's in Zimbabwean dollars. I have a pristine 500 million dollar bank note sitting beside my keyboard right now. Issued on 02/05/2008 and to be redeemed on or before 31/12/2008.

That is what they call hyperinflation. It cost me £2.:rotfl:I shall look for a little 2nd hand frame and hang it somewhere to remind me that fiat currency is only as good as the grubbymint issuing it.

jk0, very interesting anecdote about your alternative power supply. I suspect that it would be prudent to keep low, or just admit to a wind-up radio.

Me, I know nuffink, I have nuffink, I never saw you and it wasn't me wot did it.

Of course, nowhere near as sexy as a whizzy "handcranked" thungummy doodah but you can probably come out 198 euro ahead.........:rotfl:Plus I never knew vitamins could be traumatised by rough handling. Knew they can be cooked out of stuff, but knocked out by friction..........? I fink I smell a marketing ploy
    ....

ETA JayneC, I gave away my microwave a couple of years ago. I have a tiny amount of counter and it was taking up a lot of the limited room and I just didn't get muchuse out of it. May I suggest hanging loose for a while and seeing if you really miss it? A surprising amount of people who give one up don't want to get another once we've got over the feeling that we ought to have one because we used to have one, IYSWIM.

    ...

Hello ... Been a while since I've been on here. Insert various life events here. I'm back now :)

Re vitamins being spoiled by 'rough handling' I also smell marketing bull****.

And just to put the other side of the microwave story. I use mine several times a day and wouldn't be without it. I live alone but cook in bulk and freeze the food in portions which I then defrost and reheat in the microwave at mealtimes. Works for me :)

    Grubbymint. :) LOL

Interesting that those bank notes expire 6 months after they are printed. Presumably that's a scheme to save paying anyone who doesn't convert them in time?

I wonder if that's the shape of things to come here?
