Is my 'comping' method ok?

Options
I know there are various ways & people have their own method of entering comps etc but was wondering if the method I use is ok (I’m guessing that others might also do this)

I go 'advanced search' and search for the comps ending the next day by entering E: 27/10 etc, search titles only and this pulls out all the comps that end tomorrow, usually about 12 pages.

I use a Firefox add-on called 'LastPass' (https://lastpass.com/) that automatically enters the fields, name, address etc, it also remembers usernames/pass etc for registered user account websites and logs you on automatically.

Thanks

I might be wrong (usually am :p ) but I don't think searching by end date throws up all the comps. I used to do it this way but now I sort the board by thread title and then ascend/descend (whichever way you want to work it) and get a lot more comps that way.

I have found that the pages seem to jump a lot though so I constantly have to go back a page to make sure - one day, I worked through one page in about 5 minutes, went to the next page but it had actually jumped about 12 pages in that space of time.

  • I think that search only give a maximum number of results which is why you usually see 12 pages- you're missing out by doing it that way as you won't be seeing them all. Far better to order the forum by thread title like the poster above suggested. They jump pages if board guides are moving to Game Over or if people are clicking on expired so nothing to worry about.

Also bear in mind by doing it by end date you may find a comp with a daily entry for a prize you really want or an instant win that has been running for months that you have missed out on. Also, you will need to have some kind of system to cover off the last day of the month unless you don't mind missing a heap of them.

My main method is to work through from where I left off until I claw my way to the most recent post. But if it looks like I'm not going to make it to the top, I do a quick end date sort and fly through comps ending today and tomorrow. It doesn't take long because I will have done most of them already. I do the end date thing every Friday because there are a lot of Friday tweet comps.

Having tried various ways, I honestly feel this is the best method - for me at least. And BTW, when I end date I do it as Nod Off and Fluzz say: I sort the board by title and jump to where todays comps start.

I also comp with 200 comps per page showing, because it's a pain every time you want to move to the next page and find they've all moved.

Where are the settings for that? I've had a look and can't see anything (probably staring me in the face!)

    Thanks x

Not sure where I found it, but here are the links I work from - from my own Word document I use for comping:

    Standard view/200 posts
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72&order=desc&page=1&pp=200

    End Date/200 per page
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72&order=desc&sort=title&daysprune=-1&pp=200

Edit: Ps, you can change the "200" at the end of the url to make it any number you like, I think.

I use a bookmarking system that's a bit like end date comping.

Thank you so much for this! I open an entire end date in new tabs to avoid the missing of comps mentioned earlier with the jumping around, so this will mean I need only one or two tabs open instead of 15 or so! Super! Thanks again  :D
