    Morning all.

Went to mam's yesterday and made jam tarts. They were er....nothing to look at, but tasted very nice. Yummm. Dinner was fish cakes and mushy peas with a slice of bread, for tea I had another sausage sandwich.

I could make a good effort to do this veggie week, but can't promise anything lol, and I certainly will have to eat the roast meat at mam's on the Sunday. Wouldn't fancy telling her I didn't want it lol.

Went to Aldi yesterday to buy their butternut squash. They'd sold out but still managed to spend £8... not good when I went there to save money. :o Still, got some feta and goats cheese for veggie week. Can't wait til 8th Feb and I get some proper money!!!!!!!!!!!! lol.

Lipstick, they don't climb but do go upstairs, I have ramps, cages are just made to whatever size using grids so it's expanded over the years!

My fave online shop, the faux fur is lovely, check out the double level hammock and the fleece lined items :o

    http://www.cavycouture.co.uk/ourshop/prod_761429-Giraffe-Faux-Fur-Double-Decker-Hammock.html

Is it meat that has part defrosted?? I've had veggie stuff do that and I've still eaten it..

Didn't think they could lol. You'll have to post a pic of their cage, I wouldn't mind seeing what it looks like. Those are nice hammocks and the postage is very good. Definitely need some of these hooks they sell..always finding one missing lol.

It was bread, potato balls, and fish fingers in the top drawer. There was some lamb mince but it'd only defrosted round the very edge. Decided to use a couple of Jamie Oliver fish cakes for my dinner though, didn't want to risk it. They're carp btw.
So went to make porridge this morning and a weevil dropped into the bowl, I'm really baffled as to how it got in there it is a Quakers individual portion and I had literally just washed the bowl! Was so disgusted i threw away the milk and porridge, I had the last 2 mini bagels instead, I'm out literally all day doing jobs, so i will have a takeaway.

I have just realisd I only cleaned out 1 cupboard, tomorrow I am going to clean and throw stuff from all of them, not cooking in there until It's all.done, It's not like it's dirty anyway, I'm also buy some containers from poundland for the pasta, flour and rice.

I found live beetles in an M&S dried mushroom risotto mix that I'd bought RTC for 20p I think it was. I'd given a pack to dad and it was him that noticed them. He told me on the day I planned to eat it and I only happened to see dad by chance. They were tiny, and I bet I wouldn't have noticed them.

I told environmental health and they picked a pack up, and apparently they were tobacco beetles. I also made a complaint to M&S and got £25 worth of vouchers. Plus I got the full price back for them lol. But, it really did put me off risotto for ages, despite the beetles just being interested in the mushrooms. M&S had changed suppliers of the risotto so it wasn't a problem for them since.

Another problem I had with food was in Spain. I had to feed ds in a hurry, he was about 2. I bought a slice of pizza from a take away pizza place in Sitges, which is quite upmarket. Sat down with ds and began feeding him this pizza, as I didn't want him to get it all over him, when I found a shard of glass just sat on top of it! I dread to think what would have happened had I allowed him to feed himself.
Evening all, today is quite cold though the snow is getting a quick shift kids not happy.

Thanks Lynsey, sure it will be fine x.

Lip_stick, you made me laugh about the time he ran off and you never noticed, that's not happened to me. My youngest dd when she was in the trolley used to shout to all the "old" ladies granny, granny until they would come over and start speaking to her, they all seemed to like it and she loved it as she was a chatterbox and loved the attention she just loved speaking to people, still the same and loves answering the phone and I'll say sorry dd answered the phone then they'll ask how old she is etc, there surprised at her age how she speaks on the phone. Her uncle phoned the other week and she didn't realise who it was and he was trying to get her to say her full name over the phone she said sorry I can't give you that information and if you can't tell me who you are I will be hanging up the phone, just as i came through and took the phone off her. She wasn't impressed when I told her who it was, mum was he trying to trick me I will get him back was her words.

Food today cereal for brekkie, lunch soup and dinner was a breakfast thing. I just had a bit of dinner.

Take care. Everyone catch up tomorrow.

Lol.. she sounds like a smart one! How old is she? Did she ever get her uncle back? You should actively encourage that she does... take a trip to the joke shop lol. :D

Jelly - will definitely tell you the results. Just need to get a couple of things for it first. Can't wait to try it though.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Jelly Biactol - will try it next week, as OH has a stomach upset at the mo and is living on dry toast. Just wailing for an order to come so he can have more dry toast!! The downside is that I have now overspent on my Jan budget and will have to claw it back in Feb, also I can't get up to my target of NSD's:(

    Break fruit
    Lunch soup, pistachios
    Tea chicken and veg, chcolate

have been eating Mr A's 85% dark choc and it was ok, but, they had Black and greens organic 85% dark choc on offer - truly scrumptous, ate twice as much as I should have lol

Zafiro - I'd eat a whole large bar of G&B's if put in front of me... don't really like dark choc but will eat the G&B with orange. Prefer the nuts, crispy or white though.

Lipstick - I'd prob eat the mince up sharpish but other stuff I'd worry less about, at least it wasn't loads of meat in one go.

Cage is one of these types, don't have any pics of mine uploaded (I must find a new free site to use as I'm liking the food pics on here!) but it's similar to this:

    Mine is longer though! http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/open-multi-level/p18368-2x6-with-1x2-storage-and-1x2-loft.html

When I move somewhere bigger I will just make it bigger :D

    Today:
    Breakfast - fruit bread
Lunch - more fruit bread and fruit? Fancy bean dip but can't be bothered to make bread to go with it though could have oatcakes..
Dinner - prob use another bolognaise portion out the way. Would like to make a bit of space so I can home bake some bread and stick a couple in the freezer.
  • Morning all:wave: I'm keeping up with reading the thread but don't seem to get around to posting much at the moment.
Good to see you back Floraceem, we've wondered where you were several times.
I finally gave in on Wednesday and added to the freezer again, 2 packs of pork belly strips for £1.50 each down from over £3 and three X 2 smoked mackrel fillets (the type you still need to cook) at 20p each. I was just lucky as I got to Sains as they were marking them down and there was no one else around so I bought 6 and gave half to my friend at school.
Apart from that its been eating out of it. The PIL came round for dinner last night so we had blinis with smoked salmon, both out of freezer, a two rib of beef, from last Christmas and Cape date and brandy pudding which used up a packet of left over dates It a great pud - condemned by both weight watchers and alcoholics anonymous :rotfl:
All those talking about the cake in a mug, I do a similar thing at school with a microwave sponge pudding.
    50g margarine
    50g sugar
    1 egg
    75g flour
beat well together, we cook it in little plastic basins, I get the pupils to divide each mixture into two and then they choose a variation: 1 teaspoon cocoa powder, 1 tsp instant coffee mixed with a little boiling water, a good tablespoon of pineapple pieces, dried fruit - all mixed in or a spoon of jam, lemon curd, golden syrup or cooked apple placed in the basin first. They take about 1 and 1/2 minutes on high. I get them to work in groups of four and they choose four variations between them and they then have a quarter of each to try. We do it as part of a lesson on wartime food.
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

  • Braved another pack of porridge today and it was o.k, going to take out 2 mini bagels and just have that for lunch, I am at my grandmas for dinner, so decided i will do the 2 mile walk there, had a McDonald's and greggs yesterday so needs burning off, well some anyway.

Will take out drumsticks and noodles for tomorrow's dinner, to be done in sc.

Saw django yesterday while doing my jobs so free yay! The security guard commented that my face has changed I'm hoping he meant slimmer lol, this has spurred on my walking, i have one more job to do before I go to my grandmas.

Made the yellow split pea dip for lunch, used up the last of the oatcakes from the hamper, though it's better with warm, fresh bread.

Very cheap if anyone wants to do it for veggie week!
    500g pack costs 50p ish.

I use 100g ish which is enough for a tapas sized dish full.
Cook the split peas for 45 mins ish till soft.
Put in processor with olive oil, garlic, cumin seeds, pepper, salt etc till it's blended.

Hi y'all, I hope this doesn't come up as elongated as your posts look on IE9 on this laptop, makes reading any real diificult :(

NSD today and OH went to see the Dragon in Law so quiet day. Just as well as my mother is arriving tomorrow 11am to hit several supermarkets. Even if I persuade her to raid Waitrose's bakery bread on the way up/back that still leaves ASDA, Lidl, Sainsbury's - and possibly Morrisons, but may leave that til I go down to stay with her Friday. Want to get Dorset breakfast pot for OH to try and goose fat is on offer.

Kirri what are you doing with pigs in blankets in your freezer, thought you were a veggie ;) Bet they have frozen trotters in there poor oinks.

After recent frustrating experiences with blogs, I took advice from OH and mother and got myself another website domain. Got the one I wanted for bargain price of 3.49 which was massively cheaper than previous one I had. :D Obviously that doesn't include hosting, website building, email etc. However cos I snapped up the domain and filled in a customer survey I will get 20% off that. ;)

Now just need to fork out for the new battery for my laptop :(

  • I've been on the lookout for some different recipes for the Veggie Week Challenge (and the desire to vary my cooking repertoire:)), which I can post in the thread, if anyone's interested:question: Just add a 'thanks' to this message if you want, if you haven't got time to reply, so I can gauge reaction.

(Kirri, thanks for split pea dip recipe idea:T)
