Greek depositors withdrew €700 million ($898 million) from local banks on Monday, the country's president said, as he warned that the situation facing Greece's lenders was very difficult.
In a transcript of remarks by President Karolos Papoulias to Greek political leaders that was released Tuesday, Mr. Papoulias said that withdrawals plus buy orders received by Greek banks for German bunds totalled some 800 million.
Citing a conversation he had with Greek Central Bank Governor George Provopoulos, Mr. Papoulias said "that the strength of banks is very weak right now."

I can't understand why anyone with a choice would hold any money in a Greek bank.

What do you suggest I do about it? Hop on a plane and knock the Greek's and German's head together? Do you really think I'm a World's statesman?
Should I sit and fret and worry about something I can do nothing about or just think that the world will continue to turn and that I'm in a much better finanial position than most people, so if I go under the majority of the UK population will go with me. Perhaps we can have a party in our cardboard boxes under the viaduct.
On a more serious note, it's widely recognised that the people who survive disasters are the more optimistic ones. The depressives are the first to give up and die. Something you might want to think about if your appocalyptic dream comes true.
p.s. why does my 'winning bet' rely on house prices remaining high?0
