I've been productive today! Transferred all frozen veg into freezer bags to save some space. Portioned out some of it so easier to grab a bag when needed.
Just finished making a batch of tomato sauce to freeze and use throughout the week.
Tomorrow I will use up some of my many frozen sliced carrots and make a batch of carrot and coriander soup to freeze and use throughout the week.
May also freeze a batch of veg chilli.
Using some of the frozen fish tonight. Parents are having them in sandwiches I'm going to have mine with some cauliflower from the freezer, maybe some green beans or peas as well.
Feeling very optimistic and glad to have finally gotten my butt in gear to get organised and save us some money!

    Great idea on space saving.

If anyone interested there were large slow cookers in Tesco for £12.50 this morning.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Done my shopping, got some cheese (3 packs), some double cream and some veg - £7.33 spent.
Decided that's it and not going "bargain hunting" tonight. Got 1 litre of milk to last until Monday and get a few things then. Might try Sainsbury's tomorrow though, around 3pm.
Pork chops will be done with roast veg and blue cheese sauce (again!!) - love roast veg though.

Hunting through my cupboards today, I've found an Ouzo bottle complete with cork - only a small bottle (200ml??) and must having been hiding for ages. Really can't remember when we last bought Ouzo or even which Greek resort we got it from.
So, inspired by vintage43, I'm going to try and make oregano flavoured olive oil later - using dried oregano as I'm afraid to use raw/fresh stuff!!
How much dried oregano would you recommend for approx. 200ml of olive oil??

I'm feeling quite disorganised compared to kezlehan/gailey!! Quite inspiring to read though, sure I will pick up some tips! Lipstick, did you find something for lunch out? I mostly take food wherever I go but must be very difficult with kids and being in winter. I don't mind spending so much if I can find a nice hm cake or something but hate paying for sub standard food!

Lynsey/kraftykat hope you feel better soon!

Reading the hm garlic olive oil comments with interest, I've got a recipe in my preserving book saying cook in low oven for 45 mins, with unpeeled cloves, oil, salt, thyme, bay then add to sterilized jars with 2 tbsp of balsamic or sherry vinegar and keeps for 1 month, sounds nice as you have the oil and can squeeze the cloves for use as well. Lynsey, good price for the Sainsburys oil, I can get there but 50 mins on foot each way.. (I could take the car but mine is so expensive for petrol I hate the cost of that on top of the shopping so always try and shop on foot!). Will the dried oregano be a strong enough flavour??

    Today:
Breakfast - hm fruit bread toasted
Lunch - none, was out - long walk (7 ish miles), went to the farm shop again on way back, spent £4.94 for eggs, huge cauli, lemons, fennel, chicory.
Had slice of hm bakewell when got back as was starving by then.
Dinner - will have to be pancakes as I forgot to use them up this morning.
Not a very healthy day's food!!!

We'll see, I've made it. Leave it a week or so and try it on a pizza.
Sterilised the bottle in the oven and filled whilst still hot. Only used approx. 1 level tspn of dried oregano.
I'll get a couple of bottles of the garlic oil next week.

Feeling a bit better, still itchy eyes though!!

This is the recipe I use, I tried a few but this one is definitely the best I've tried!

450g strong flour (I use mainly white but added a little bran this week)
    2 tbsp sugar
    50g butter
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp yeast
    280 ml water
    Little mixed spice

I put it on the dough only setting in the bread maker and when it beeps I add in the fruit & peel, usually about 4 oz dried fruit (whatever I have, at the moment it's cranberries and sultanas) and 1 oz peel

When dough ready, take it out and knead it a bit and put into loaf tin (I use two x 1lb loaf tins so I can eat one and freeze one) and leave to rise, took 1.5 hours this week as kitchen a bit cold and sweet dough takes longer anyway I think.
Cook for 25 mins at 200 degrees fan oven.

Hardest bit is waiting for it to cool to cut it and toast it!

    Sounds gorgeous!!

I don't have a breadmaker, but I suppose you could do it by hand. Now I KNOW hubby would love it :rotfl:

    Thanks for the recipe,

    Julie xx

Lol sure he'd love it if you told him that!!

Probably would work as well, I have the breadmaker because I never quite mastered bread by hand or dough hook!
