"You have nothing to pay" ...

I've just done my self-assessment online, and submitted it on Sunday 22nd Jan, and that seems to have gone through OK. I'm going to owe them about a thousand pounds, as I expected. At the moment, in my account it still says 'You have nothing to pay' so I'm not 100% certain how much money they want. I'm assuming it will update eventually to tell me what my exact bill is, but does anyone know when this might be? Or is there something else I need to do?

Edited to say - my income was slightly less than the year before, so my payments on account were slightly more than I owed for that tax year, but I'm still expecting to have to pay the rest of the next payment on account in January. Does that make a difference?

When I submitted by return online it took some time for the message to change, perhaps a day or two. Don't worry.

The accounting is on the main SA database - which is separate to the SA online and connects via overnight Batch runs. I've little doubt they would have run one last night as filing reaches a bit of a crescendo - but don't know where the cut off time / volume limits lies.

If you Login again tomorrow it should have dragged the accounting back and show you the accurate picture.

Earlier I noticed SA Online was showing "Information as at 20 Jan 2012", but now it says "Information as at 23 Jan 2012" so if you try now it may have updated.

Thanks everyone - I've logged back in and it is all up to date for me!

Still, it could do with a warning, because it would be quite easy to get confused and assume that there really was nothing to pay, especially if the message doesn't change for several days after you've filed your return.

There is a sentence on the calculation (pre the accounting updating) to the effect POAs are not accounted for at that point? As this :

This amount does not take into account any 2010-11 payments on account you may have already made or tax due for
    earlier years.

But extending that to indicate a timeframe to update - shouldn't be too arduous?

Yes. When I looked on Monday, on the same page I had one box telling me that I had submitted my return, and on the other side I had a box telling me that I had nothing to pay, with nothing to hint that the two boxes were out of step with each other. Even a standard warning underneath the 'nothing to pay' would be better than nothing.
